Aroofa..

"You look like a car ran over your dog" My stylist says as she sprays my hair with some type of  gel for the thousandth time.

"I feel like a car ran over my dog Mara" I say, my thumb swiping through my Instagram feed, chewing on my thumbnail.

"You better stop chewing that finger" She says and I grimace, removing it from my mouth, Ken, my nail technician will kill me if he sees me chewing on his masterpiece.

"So, tell me, what has got you in a Funk? One would think yo woulda be happy about the fact that you've got another movie deal coming up" I am happy, I am really happy that I've got another movie deal coming up, I've seen the script and it's the best thing in the world, an action movie, although the male lead isn't clear yet, I'm beyond happy but I can't seem to muster any joy.

"So, you gonna talk or what?"

"It's nothing Mara, I'm just feeling down" I say, grabbing my Starbucks cup and sipping my latte.

"Yeah, and the earth is flat, you feeling down is something that's impossible but I get if you don't want to tell met" She says and I sigh.

"Okay... Look, promise you won't tell anybody" I say and she affects a face of mock offence.

"Looks like this is going to be real juicy, besides who will I tell?"

I nod, deciding that that request was stupid.

. There's this friend of mine who has never dated, like she's my age and she's never had a single boyfriend"I say,

Mara nods.." wow, it must have been hard"She says and I nod..

"OK.. Well, now she's telling me she's falling for a guy, uh... He's thirty and she's uh.. Twenty five, as you know and well, she decided to let him know she likes him and he rejected her, saying he's older and all that...

. What do you think?"

She nods, slowly, waving the curling iron around.

" Well, what do you think about the situation? "She asks me and I frown.

" Me? "

" Yeah, you she's your friend right? "

" Well, yes,"

" Good, you should have an opinion about this thing, what do you think first of all"

"Oh.. Well, first of all I was thinking that since she has no experience dating she must have been very naive and that maybe she shouldn't have gone to meet the guy by herself?"

"Why?" She asks.

"Doesn't that constitute as throwing herself at the guy?" she looks completely surprised at my response.

"Why do you think so?"

"Shouldn't a woman try to make herself unattainable? Make the man crave her?"

"Jesus, who's been teaching you these things?"

"Uh.. I read some of them"

"No Aroofa, the world doesn't work like that, sitting around for a guy to notice you is something archaic, Do you want to know what constitutes as throwing yourself at a guy?"

"Yeah" I whisper.

"You waiting n*ked for him on his bed and following him around even after he's told you he's not interested a million times, I did this once, you know" She says and my eyes bulges.

"You did?"

"Yeah, before meeting my husband, I was... Unsavory.. Telling a guy that you are interested in him is not throwing yourself at him, in my opinion that is, it's you making your interest known, begging him for love is just that, you can make yourself unattainable while at the same time making an interest known "This gets my attention so I turn. 

" Really? "I whisper 

" Really"

"How?" 

"Say, for instance, You tell this guy you like him, He asks you out, You go, You don't wait for him to pay your bills, although some guys like doing this stuff, you don't follow him home and you don't immediately start planning baby names" She says and I nod, Knowing that all these things are correct, seeing as Anadia has tried to ingrain this in I and Aroos 's head. 

"People these days think being a strong woman is generally being rude and acting hostile and aggressive, no, it's knowing what you want, going for it and knowing when to let go when it moves out of your reach" She says. 

"wow, you are really wise" I whisper. 

"I'm just Thirty two baby, I'm not that wise" She says and I nod. 

"Now, for your friend, this guy is obviously thinking he's too old for her, he's pushing her away, Maybe he genuinely doesn't like her... Has she thought about that?" 

I suddenly realize that this might be true, maybe Yoel isn't attracted to me and he was just letting me down gently. 

" No.. No, she hasn't thought of that "

" Let her think about that part, if really this guy likes her then he's got to be able to see the type of person she is, her sincerety and her heart, No pressure, nothing, let her keep her distance, you do know that true love always finds a way right? "She asks with a wink and I nod. 

Thinking about how Anadia and Kane are together now, even after the lose they experienced. 

" Good, Now are you going to let me take care of your hair before that grumpy manager of yours arrives? "She asks and I nod with a smile. 

The door bangs open.. 

"Aroofa, you are live in thirty minutes, don't tell me your hair isn't done" He, my manager says, poking his head into the room. 

Talk of the devil. 

"I'm almost done Clem" 

"Good, they are thinking about doing a surprise reveal on the show today" He says, sounding put out. 

"Really?" I ask, meeting his eyes in the mirror.. 

"Well, yes, it's for the male lead, I wish they had told us sooner, now we've got to rush.. Stupid show business" He says. 

"Do you know who the male lead might be?" 

"Uh....?" He asks distractedly,glancing at the screen of his now ringing phone 

"The male lead... Who?" 

"Oh, Word is its Yoel Trey.. Just.. Just get ready, I've got to take this call" He says, My reply doesn't come because I'm frozen, I feel anticipation in my stomach and I bite my lip, my eyes meeting Mara's in the mirror. 

"We good?" She asks 

"Yeah" I say but my voice breaks on the single word.
