My Adventure - Episode 5
The Day I Can Never Forget
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts”
--- Marcus Aurelius
Actually, I have been dreaming of matriculation day since the very first day I got to campus and to God be the glory the day finally came to reality. It was a bright Wednesday morning, this day eventually happened to be the day most of the newly admitted students have been dreaming of, a day that will forever linger on in my memory so also other students.
The day was full of joy, happiness and celebrations among the whole students of the university, the matriculation programme which was scheduled to start by 11:00am but due to the anxiety and readiness of the students the programme commenced behind scheduled . On this very day some students dressed in a well mannered way as they normally did, while some dressed in a very stupid but sensible in their own thinking. This very day I almost went blind because all what I was seeing could actually remove my eyes from its socket.
Before the programme started, we had all assembled at the most famous lecture theatre in the university, that is well known as LLT2 by the students. We all assembled in this hall with our matriculation gown and cap which cost us #1000 for rentage.
After some minutes, the students’ affair officer led a procession of faculty officers, heads of department and sub deans of faculty to the lecture theatre, followed by the deputy vice chancellor of the university, the librarian, bursar, provosts, deans and member of the senates in their academic gowns assembled in front of the theatre.
Within a couple of minutes, the deputy registrar also led a procession of the Ag. Dean of students, and the vice chancellor into the matriculation hall

. After some series of procession, the Ag. Registrar rose and bowed down to the vice chancellor and called on him to declare the matriculation ceremony opened.
The programme was declared opened by the vice chancellor by saying, ‘ by the powers conferred on me by the senate of this institution I declare the matriculation ceremony open” this very declaration by the V.C called for radical noise and applause from the students and the distinguished bodies present.
Immediately after this, the dean of each faculty presented the students to the V.C for matriculation and the registrar leds us in reading the oath of allegiance. After this, we all bowed thereby affirming our obedience and loyalty to the university at large. Instantly the V.C rose up majestically and said, ‘ I admit all of you as students of this institution, and approveof your membership for the university with all rights and privileges .’
After series of speeches and admonishments from the invited guests present at the occasion including the governor of the state, the programme was declared closed by the amiable vice chancellor of the university.
This day was very superb and quite interesting, although no one came from home, but I still eat to the fullest from various people that brought food for the programme and several pics of diverse styles were snapped. What a wonderful occasion that will forever linger on in my memory.
