A Glint Of Hope - Episode 1

Vivian’s POV

I watched as the pyre burned in front of me with an attention that was more too much than expected. Not that I was expecting Indira’s body to form back together and walk towards me with a smile on her face and ask me what was really wrong, but with an assurance that I was going to get enough strength from all this.

Few months back, I had happily left my father's home leaving behind a healthy best friend and now I'm back, broken and empty. In addition to my already confused life, a dead best friend.

I turned around as I felt a hand tapping my shoulder, I look behind to see it was my younger sister, Ira.

“Sis, a mail came in for you. It's from the court. The final hearing is in two days time” I laughed a little bit at that. A laugh at a funeral is something weird, right?. What else do you think I should have done at that moment?.

I've been battling my husband for over a month for divource which he refused to sign ever since and now that my father in law has decided to step in, the final court hearing date was shifted back two weeks earlier without a prior notice. I looked over at Ethan and saw the blank look on his face, I walked over to where he stood and smiled at him.

“Hey..” He looked over at me trying to force a smile

. “It will all be alright” I said with a great courage. I know it's not easy for him at this moment, he just lost his wife and I think he needs all the strength in the world and not my own sad tell tale.

“Are you leaving?” He asked and I could only reply with a nod.

“I guess I'll see you later then. Take care” I was about leaving before he stopped me.

“I'll be going back to California tomorrow. I guess I'll see you when destiny wants us to meet again” He said before walking over to Indira’s parent to bid them goodbye.

I wanted to tell him to stay but I just couldn't, why will I want to burden him with my life issues. He's got enough to worry about already.

“If you ever find yourself in California, come to this address. Even if you don't find me there, you'll see someone who'll get you to me”

“And as for me, you know where to always find me. Goodbye” I replied before walking over to where my sister was standing and gestured her to move so we would be on our way. I turned back to look at the burning prye and said a little prayer for Indira and myself.

On this journey lord, give me strength.

I entered into my house to see my parent in a sober mood.

“What's up?” I asked them.

“Your lawyer backed out,you've now been assigned to a government lawyer” my father explained. He paused a little before he continued. “And the final court hearing is in two days time. What are we supposed to do?”

“I guess father in law finally strikes with his golden rod. I really don't care what happen at the court hearing. I've got plans, either positive or negative, I'm going to NYU. They accepted my admission letter two months back before I left my husband's home” I could see the shock evident on my sister's face. It was only her that understood what NYU is truly is.

“What's NYU?” My mother inquired.

“New York university. I got admitted for photography. On scholarship too though, but I'll have to sort out my accommodation and feeding if I don't want to live on campus” I explained and the silent that followed was enough to tell me that they didn't like the idea.

After a while ,my father finally talked “You'll go to the school. No matter what happens, I support you. Go and be happy for yourself my child. I've made enough decision for your life, I think it's time for you to take charge” I smiled with happy tears running down my face. I just couldn't find the right word to tell them how happy I was.

The day of the final court hearing finally arrived and like every other time, both lawyers presented their own objections and evidence and all.

After five long hours, the judge passed the final sentence.

My marriage was not annuled, it was still intact. I didn't cry or frown, it was evident from the start that it was going to end that way.

I walked up to my father in law and applauded him with a thunderous round of claps.

“You did an amazing job with that. You're really a role model to all. But guess what, no matter how many times you bring me down, I'll still rise and I swear on my life, this time, it will be just as crazy as this” I wish I could just strangle him or slap that evil smirk off his face.

“You will be exposed but in the main time, sit back and enjoy every drama that comes your way. That smirk on your face won't last, I promise you” I made my way out the court and straight to the airport.

I stepped into the future—my future and look back at my past. But I promise, I'll shake the ground when I get back. Father in law better be ready for what is coming his way. It is much heavier than a truck itself.
