Monica’s father hangs himself from life’s frustration
Monica and her mother wept as they mourned her father .Her mother took the challenge of catering for her daughter .she worked day and night just to see that her daughter was well taken care of. But the stress she passed through was so much to bear as it took away her strength. She later became sick and die.

Monica became sadden over her parents dismiss, since there was no other means of sustaining herself. She decided to get a job. She searched tirelessly, but all to no avail. She could not get a job anywhere, because everyone thought her to be an evil child who had killed her parents.

One day, a man named Louis called her and said to her “I always feel bad whenever I see you begging along the street”. She replied, “I am an orphan who has no helper on earth to care for me and so begging for alms is my only alternative since I could not get a job”. Louis had pity on her and promised to help her. He did this by giving her shelter and a job.

Monica was diligent in her work. People liked her and always commended her for being a hardworking girl. This made Louis like her so much to the extent of developing feelings for her.
After a while, Louis approached her and told her how he felt about her attitude and diligence, and proposed marriage to her. Monica had been longing for love and to be loved, and to have a good family since the death of her parents

. Her mind flashed back to when Louis met her at first, how he took care of her and gave her a job. She became happy, hoping that Louis will be a good husband to her, and good father to her children. So, she accepted with excitement and they hugged each other, went home and planned for their marriage.

It was so hard for them to plan their marriage, because Monica had neither parents nor siblings for Louis to pay her bride price to. So Louis advised her to look for her relatives who will witness and bless their marriage.

Monica did not know if she had relatives or not, it became too difficult for her in searching for her relative, because her late parents never told or introduced anybody to her as her relative before they died.
She went in search of her relatives but could not find any one. She thought and worried and later resolved within herself to confide in her best friend’s parent and Louis agreed and they went and told her friend’s parent and they accepted. A marriage rite was made and they did the white wedding at a Church, beside Louis’ house.

After one year of their marriage, Monica gave birth to a baby girl and Louis called her his little Joy and Joy became her name. Louis loved and cherished her so much, and always referred to her as the Joy of his family. Monica became pregnant again after three years and gave birth to a baby girl. Louis was happy for his new baby girl, though he wanted a boy.

. However, he thanked God and hoped that the next child would be a boy. He would later name the child Mary. Life was good and they lived happily until her third pregnancy. Louis treasured her and stopped her from doing anything including cooking, because they were expecting a baby boy and did not want anything to happen to him.

He would touch and kiss his wife’s tummy every morning before leaving for work. He went to the market and bought some baby toys, clothes and shoes for his unborn baby and called him different great names, hoping that the baby will be a boy. Few months later, Monica gave birth and it was a girl again. Louis hearing that his wife had given birth, became excited and asked to know if the baby was a boy but they told him a girl. Louis' mood changed, he became sad immediately and refused to either visit her in the hospital or welcome her home. He became so upset that he left his house very early and came back home late. Sometimes, he got drunk and made troubles. His attitude towards his wife changed, he abused her and shouted at his daughters and called them names because his wife had not been able to give him a male child who will bear his name and represent him when he is no more.

Monica named her last daughter Beatrice four weeks after her birth since her husband did not show interest.
