My Life My Choice - Episode 1

It was a beautiful, bright and sunny morning,while everyone was going about their usual morning chores.Kande's voice was heard as shouted her daughter's name.It has been like this for almost three weeks now. Since she came back from visiting her grandma who was admitted at Rigasa hospital she has not been herself. All she talks about is her desire to go to school and become a doctor like the woman who saved her grandma.This thing is worrying her because she knows that what her daughter desires she will never get.
The only person that allowed  his daughter to go to school is the village pastor and everybody sees him as a foolish man.Other villagers send their disobedient or or lazy sons so they can be corrected. She will not allow her daughter to bring bad luck to their family.
  Yes mama you called me,Marka called her mother about three times before she noticed her presence.
Ma please what do you want me to do? Her mother turned and looked at her angrily and said I want you to come back to your senses, drop this your foolish desire of following the missionaries, in  2-4years time you will be in your husband's her.So focuse on how to be a housewife and farmer instead of running around in the name of school. Now get out of my face and go clear the compound sweep every nick and crany.
     Later that afternoon while everyone was busy harvesting groundnuts, Marka was lost in thought on how to convince her parents to allow her go to school. 
   Marka! Marka! Her best friend Binta called, what's your problem? you've been like this all morning, is anything wrong  with you?or has your boyfriend visited already and you are not telling me?
    Binta I have told you times without number to stop associating me with that boy, am just ten years I can't be talking of marriage, what's wrong with everyone

   Can i come in baba? Asked Marka as she knocked at her father's door that night, she heard better face the lion and be done with it she told herself. She entered and sat on the mat in the poorly lighted bedroom.Her father was sitting on the earthen bed chewing kolanut.What is it my princess you looked worried.
  Baba please I want to ask for permission to go to school and become a doctor like that one that healed grandma in Rigasa hospital,I want to make you proud and stop all this rampart death in the village please.
      Hmmm! My dear am already proud of you,your beauty has attracted the most influential family to be my in laws,you cook delicious meals,you're very active at the farm .Am satisfied I can't for you to become fourteen quickly so I can send you to your own home,how joyful I will that that's a better achievement my dear.
  Her eyes were fixed on the ground while her father was talking ,how can she convince this man that she has seen a better life beyond marriage and farming.she doesn't want to die like  her cousin of urinating disease.
