Overcomer - Episode 6

Omotola's POV

Staying with auntie Funke has been hell for me, I received beating for any little mistake ,I was gradually losing my self esteem, mom finally called me, I heard from her 6months ago, Mom I said happily , we talked for long, my aunt was with me through out the call, I wanted to tell her to come and take me but I couldn't, I cried silently after the call, if not I would suffer for it.

My aunt kept on torturing me, I ate once a week, at times she sits in the kitchen while I cook , I couldn't hide anything, I became so thin.

I planned to get my mum's number from aunt's phone, i successfully got the number with the help of her son,Taiwo.

I kept it on the table in my room and head back to the kitchen, I need to hide some portion of this food, before my aunt's will catch me.

FUNKE'S POV

I  called Tola thrice but no respond, I entered her room thinking she was there, then I saw her mum's phone number on the table, oh so this girl thinks she is wise, I will show her  today.

As I entered the kitchen, I spotted her in the corner of the cupboard eating eba, How dare you , i screamed , you had the effontery to hide my food when am not yet satisfied, I knew it, the rate at the foodstuffs finishes.

I landed her a very hot slap, I pouced on her and gave her the type of beating, she will never forget in her life. She started coughing, oh you better die, because that cough is not  enough, you dont deserve a life, unfortunate child, 

Omotola's POV

I cried so had not because of the beaten but because of the statement she made, YOU DON'T DESERVE A LIFE.  Was it my fault my father disappeared or that my mom is trying to get a stable finance, why is life so cruel to me

I hid some portion of food because I knew my aunt won't give me food deliberately, unfortunately she caught me plus my mom's number she found on my table.

I really need to speak with mum, it's better we suffer together and am not been treated like a slave. Mom needs to take responsibility, I went went bitterly

My aunt's voice interrupted my thoughts, Tola go and arrange my children's room now. Ok ma

A week later, it was Lola's (My Aunt's daughters)13thbirthday, though she didn't plan to celebrate it, until Aunty Paulina, my aunties friend, showed up she brought Jollof rice, lots of drinks and gifts for the birthday.

My aunt ordered me to serve all the food , if u are hungry scrape the remnants from the plates to eat she said.

Funke's POV

Thank you so much Paulina, you are full of surprises.

I ordered Tola to serve all the food to the kids, if there is any remnants from the food, you can eat that.

Paulina's  POV

Lola darling happy birthday, I said handing over the gifts I bought for her, many more years to come

Thank you ma, she said hugging me. I turned to Funke  we exchanged pleasantries, who is she , I pointed to a little girl looking unkept

She is Bunmi's bastard, oh did she marry that Benson guy I said.

 if she had gotten married to him, it would have been better, he impregnated her and ran away she replied

Oops that's bad, but you should at least let her look good, she is looking unkept. Abeg leave that matter she cuts me.

America looks good on you, see has your kids are glowing, are you finally here to stay she asked

Yes  dear, but we are relocating to Abuja, you aren't looking bad yourself, what about your husband I asked

Business trip as usual,  we laughed

But Funke, you seriously need to tell this poor girl to rest, she has been working since I came,  Rest for what she replied

What about her mom, I asked, still hustling ooo, she replied. I really pity her

We talked about lots of things, it was really nice you checking up on us, my kids will be here just for the weekend, I need to spend time alone with my hubby, let's  explore Lagos, we might never come back to Lagos again, I said

You and this your husband ehn, I thought you people would have changed,  she said

Tola , I called thrice have you washed those plates, I asked.

Yes  ma she replied, Clean up this sitting room and prepare something nice for this children to eat, I said walking into my room.
