Redemption - Episode 25

Lucas:

  I drive slowly to the address Benedicta gave me so as not to rouse her in her sleep. She fell asleep few minutes after she texted someone on her phone and I can't help but wonder how trusting she is of a stranger.
"Larry" I hear her moan in her sleep and I turn to see the huge smile on her face. I feel like I have been kicked in the gut. She's probably dreaming about the guy she eloped with when she abandoned my brother to die. Who knows if the miscarriage she had back then wasn't because she aborted the baby? I grab the steering wheel so hard, my knuckles go white.
I can't possibly still like this cheat. I press my feet on the accelerator and the car flies forward, the force pushing Benedicta off her seat.
"Ouch!" She groans and rub her arm which must have collided with something. I smile satisfactorily.
"I don't like when people sleep while I drive. I am not a driver." I say, without looking at her. I hear her grumble a few words but I don't pay attention. My mind is now focused on how to make sure I get her to be the nanny for Jake's kids so she would be at my mercy.
"Why are you grinning?" I hear Benedicta ask and I turn my grin into a smirk.
"I just thought about___"
"We are here. Drop me off at the corner." Benedicta cut me off and I turn to see her eyes are focused on the gate in  of the big mansion she has asked me to park beside

. I follow her eyes and see there's a guy standing in front of the gate. Benedicta quickly get out of the car and shut the door.
"Umm thanks for the ride. I __" I don't let her finish her sentence before I speed off into the night in anger. She probably left Luis for this luxury. The owner of that house is probably a millionaire. She's a gold digger and I would make sure to make her pay for what she made my brother go through.

Benedicta:

The car just speeds off and I have to move back to avoid being ran over. What a crazy guy. One minute he's kissing me, the next minute, he wants to run me over with his car.
"Are you drunk?" I hear Favour ask from the gate and I sigh. I never want my brothers to see me make another mistake again. Favour has done so much to make sure my son and I have a better life. We are even the reason why he married Prudence. She is the daughter of his boss and no matter how they don't get along well, he agreed to marry her when his boss threatened to fire him. He would never agree but I know he didn't want to be jobless so he could cater for Larry and I. I owe my big brother a lot.
I turn around and walk to stand beside him.
"I am not drunk. Cheryl and I just went on a celebratory drink. That's all "I say and he just nods.
"And that guy?" Favour asks.
"Oh. That. He's Cheryl's driver. She couldn't stay so she sent me one of her dad's driver " I lie through my teeth. The look Favour gives me, tells me he doesn't buy the lie but he just shrugs.
"Come on kiddo. Let's go inside. It's so late right now." I quickly nod and follow him inside the house.

Next morning:
"Mommy! Mommy!" The loud screaming rouse me from my sleep and I just roll over, finding a warmer spot on the so comfortable bed.
"Mom!" I hear again and I groan. Come on! I wasn't able to sleep early after Favour let me in. I need more sleep.
"Mom!"I hear and this time it's closer. I peek one eye open and the cheery face of my son greets me. I am awake immediately.
"baby!" I jump out of bed and pick my little boy off the ground and hug him fiercely.
"I missed you Larry." I say and he chuckles.
"I know mom. That's why as soon as aunt Prudence told me you are here, I ran up. I know how much you miss me every time." He says and I smile. Such a thoughtful child.
"Larry? You didn't finish your breakfast. Larry?" I hear Prudence before she peek her head through my room door.
"Hey Bennie. You are here." She says when she sees me.
"Yea. Cheryl got abducted by her dad again and I left my purse somewhere." I say as explanation. She just smiles and shake her head.
"When will that girl's father learn to stop meddling in her life? We women want to have the right to choose who we want to marry." She says and I know she was also forced into this arranged marriage with my brother.
"Well, Cheryl isn't a pushover anymore. She would handle her father."I tell Prudence.
"That's good then. Now, come on Larry. Breakfast calls." She gestures for Larry who is holding so tight to me right now.
"If I leave, mom might go." He pouts and I feel my heart go heavy. I really want to get my life together soon for my son. I need him with me always.
"Come on baby. I ain't leaving yet. And guess what?" I pinch his nose lightly and he giggles.
"What mom?"
"I am in charge of feeding you today." I say. He thinks in this then shakes his head.
"I feed myself now. I am a big boy." He tells me and I hear Prudence chuckle.
"What? When did my baby become a big boy?" I tease. He puffs his shoulder up a little before shrugging.
"I am going to be six soon. Uncle Favour says that makes me a big boy." He says and shows me five fingers to signify his age. I have to pull his thumb up to complete the number to six.
"Okay big boy. Seems you don't need mommy anymore. I have to go. Prudence, see you next time." I start to drop him down but he holds my neck tightly.
"No! Mommy." He cries and I chuckle.
"Come on. Let's get you two breakfast before you start your drama." Prudence says and we both follow behind her.

"Larry got a perfect score in math in the last test." Prudence tells me and I see my boy swell in pride. We are still at the dinning table. Larry already cleared his plate of cereal and I am still munching on my toast.
"Wow. My boy is a genius!" I say and kiss Larry's cheeks.
"Mom! You don't kiss a six years old boy. That's for children." Larry says but I just assault him with more kisses.
"You know, his teacher said Larry knows more than his mates in maths." Prudence says.
"He must take after his mother." She continues and I shake my head.
"If there's anything that isn't my calling in this life, it is maths. That's Favour's thing." I say, pointing to my brother who is at the far end of the table reading a newspaper that I just realized is turned upside down. Favour notices our stare and he looks up from the newspaper. His eyes go to Prudence and I see my brother blush. Wow. I look back at Prudence and she's also acting weird. Yeap. something is up with these two.
"I never knew you could read upside down too." Prudence says to my brother and I smother my laugh and pretend to feed Larry my toast.
"What do you mean by that?" I hear my brother ask.
"I mean your newspaper has been upside down the whole time you have been sitting there." Prudence point out and I see my brother fidget in his seat.
"I need some air." He says and bolts out like the gate of hell was on his tail.
I hear Prudence snicker underneath are breath.
"OK babe. Spill." I tell her and she shrug nonchalantly.
"Well, your brother kissed me last night." She whisper to me and I clapse my hand over my mouth.
"What? Say truth!" I squeal excitedly and she nods.
"He hasn't been able to look at me since then.

. Your brother is just so proper and stiff." She tells me and I nod. So true.
"That might have been his first kiss." I tease and Prudence burst into a fitful giggle.
"Mom. What's first kiss? Is it different from the kisses you give me?" I hear Larry ask from beside me and I stuff his mouth full with my toast while laughing nervously. Prudence's laugh only increases beside me. Evil woman.
"Nothing son. I said first kits. Not kiss." I tell him.
"Yes Larry." Prudence adds.
"What's this about a court order?" I hear Favour's voice before I see him walking back into the dining room with an envelope.
"Court order?" I ask and he nods.
" it says here that you assaulted a man and damaged his property. You have been asked to report in Court next week. There's also an address for the complainant for reasons I don't know." Favour says and I feel like a sledgehammer just slammed into my stomach. What the___  That slimy son of a no gooder! I cuss in my head.
  I look around to see everyone's attention is now on me including my dear son. I am going to kill that idiot!
