He finally opened his eyes, trying to make sense of why he was in the attic and why he was sitting that way and….everything came back to him suddenly and he quickly lifted his head off her shoulders.

“Forgive me, I do not know what came over me all of a sudden…I am so sorry, I don’t usually go about falling asleep on people’s shoulders….” He said apologetically, standing up.

Sonia stood up immediately too, trying to avoid his eyes as possible…

“It’s ok. You looked like you really needed that sleep.” She said awkwardly…how would she be conversing with her captor?

 “Actually…it’s been years that I had such a sound sleep.” Calvin said truthfully, actually it’s been more than a century.

Sonia didn’t know what to say so she just nodded slightly.

“I will appreciate it if you can keep playing anytime you feel like, I will make arrangement to have the keyboard shifted to a place where you can easily reach it, if that’s okay.”

Sonia nodded again. “No problem.”

Awkward silence………

“Whatever you need, you can tell the woman, she will help you. Okay, good talk.” He said, nodded slightly and was about to leave…

“Excuse me ….”

He stopped as he heard her voice and then turned around.

“What is it?”

“Is there any chance that I am leaving this place soon?” Sonia finally asked.

Calvin turned around again towards the entrance.

“You should be grateful that you are even alive, don’t ask me that again miss….whats your name again?”

“I didn’t give it.” Sonia said sternly.

“Very well, have a great evening.” He said before heading out.

Sonia bit her lips to keep herself from crying

. So this mansion of the devil was going to be the rest of her life? She buried her hand in her face as she let out a painful cry.

“Do not beat yourself too hard dear.”

Sonia raised her head up immediately as she heard Madam Kofi’s voice.

“I thought you were gone.” She said but the woman only smiled.

“No, I was just deep inside the attic, I heard all your conversations.”

Sonia was confused, the woman was talking to her, “What about the hidden cameras?”

“There is no hidden camera here in the attic, it is the lowest room in the mansion and no one uses it.” The woman said, sitting beside her.

This way, Sonia could see her clearly.

“I don’t know what to do, I am supposed  to be planning for my wedding, all my friends will be so worried they will never forgive themselves for letting take that stupid bet. Ben will be so worried. Oh God! Is this going to be my life forever?”

The woman smiled.

. “ I understand your worries but boss was right. I have been working for him for many years now, from Nigeria and then here in SA.  Believe me, he has never brought in any prisoner, he has always killed anyone he saw as a threat.”

“So why didn’t he kill me? Atleast he would be free of me.”

The woman thought for a while. “Well, our boss is actually a very mysterious man. He must have a reason for keeping you, and from what I saw tonight, he has a soft spot for you.”

“Soft spot?”

“Yes, I think he needs you or maybe he likes you , whatever reason it is, you must be quite special for being alive. If I were you, I will use this to my advantage.”

Sonia didn’t understand. “I don’t quite follow.”

“Look, ever since I have been working with him, he has never showed any interest in a lady the way he has showed interest in you, there must be something to it and you have to find out, that is the only way you can escape.”

“So, what do you suggest I do.”

“Tap into this weak spot of his, use it to your advantage.”

“But how?”

“Get close to him. That way, you can be sure he will do your bidding. A day might even come that he will let down his guards and you might use it to escape, make him trust you, make him like you than any one he’s ever liked.”

Sonia was looking at the woman as if she was crazy. ‘Madam Kofi, are you by any chance saying I should make that cold-hearted daredevil of a killer-man fall in-love with me?”

The older woman smiled. “Yes. That is exactly what I'm saying.”
