The Odds Are Against Me - Episode 17
Not so long, the house help was awake. I was fixated on my phone, while she greeted me. I raised my head up slowly.
"Hello, how are you Bisi?", I replied. Her name was Bisi. "I am fine", she replied. She sat on the sofa beside me. The television was on, and she concentrated fully while watching it. There was a knock on the door.
"Go and check who it is", I said. She stood up and went to check. Anderson and Bola were fast asleep in their room. I heard Bisi greeted the person, I looked, and a young familiar voice answered. I turned back to know who it was and it was Lola. I quickly dropped my phone.
"Hey, Lola, welcome", I said. She came close, we shook hand. She sat on a sofa opposite mine.
"How are you doing. Where is Funmi?", she asked.
"You are her friend, last I checked. You are meant to know where she went to", I said, picked up my phone and started pressing it. She made a face and looked around as if she was looking for someone.
"How about your children?", she asked.
"They are asleep", I said and pointed the room where they were, for her.
"Oh, I see. I hope no problem, this one you are answering me like this", she said

. I ignored her. She told the house girl to leave the sitting room and go inside that she wants to discuss something with me.
"Really?", I replied shocked. I looked at Bisi, but didn't say anything. I wanted to tell her not to enter, but I ignored. Bisi entered inside and I was not bothered. Lola looked around to know if Bisi had entered truly, and not anywhere she could be seeing what's happening. She stood up from where she was and came to where I sat. She sat down immediately, and crossed her legs.
"I hope all is well? And you are not here to play a dirty game?", I asked.
"Maybe, I am here for that. You are always good at reading minds, but I don't care", she replied, and stretched her legs well. She started rubbing my neck, then moved to the back. She placed one hand at my back and the other on my chest.
"Uhmm, I don't want to create a scene here. Just leave me alone", I said.
"If you are not enjoying it, why not push me away and stop the pretense", she said, freed her hands and gazed into my eyes. I hissed. Just then, there was a knock on the door, I made to stand up and open the door, I looked around and Bisi was already in the parlour. She ran quickly to open the door. Lola hissed. I was surprised Bisi was attentive to what was happening to the extent that she heard the knock, or maybe she was busy eavesdropping to our conversations. She opened the door, and it was Funmi. I walked quickly to the door and hugged her. Bisi had collected her hand bag, and the other gift bags she came with. I held Funmi tightly to anger Lola so she would leave me alone for once. I knew she would still not stop unless she wanted. I sat on the sofa, and told Funmi to sit on my laps.
"What's all these?", Funmi asked laughing, as she sat down.
"I can see the love is out of this world. The fairy toake one", Lola retorted, made a face and started laughing. They both laughed, but I didn't.
"Hey, Lola, how are you doing? It's been long you visited?", Funmi asked.
"Yes, just wanted to say Hi today", Lola said.
"But you know I won't be around. It's one of our extended friend's wedding", Funmi said. "Why didn't you come?", Funmi said again.
"Err, I was sorta busy with works; it had been hectic so far. I thought you'd have come back that's why I came so you'd tell me how the wedding went.
"Oh really?". Funmi asked rhetorically and burst out to laughter.
"Whatever", Lola said. Bisi entered the parlour with Anderson and Bola, and they interrupted us. She had bathed them.

. They all rushed to greet their mother. After that, Bisi informed us that dinner was ready.
"I think I'd be going. We will chat later", Lola said.
"No, join us for dinner", Funmi begged.
"Okay", Lola replied. I looked at her, and shook my head. We ate and they chatted away. I concentrated on the food and my phone. Bisi fed Bola, and Anderson kept pestering with questions while he ate. His questions concentrated mostly on who Lola was, after Funmi had answered all, he moved to asking Lola questions about her.
After, we were done with dinner, I followed my children to their rooms to make them sleep while Funmi and Lola stayed in the sitting room to gist. It was Bisi's job to make them sleep, but I had to do it that night. By 8:07PM, they had slept, I left their room and came to the sitting room and Lola had gone. I held Funmi's hand where she sat while watching a Nollywood movie on Africa Magic channel, and we left to the bedroom.
