Emmanuel's pov

Yea, today at school sucked. No tessy, no fun. And it seems like the

night is gonna end on a more boring note. My dad's home which means

its news all through. My room's cable has expired for some days now so

i have to endure the news. Maybe my dad would sleep off then i can

change the channel to something more fun.

I sit with my eyes piece on and read only the headlines. Nothing

interesting. Just some news about north Korea releasing some

Americans. I yawn in disinterest but then someone on the news catches

my attention. Its olivia. I remove the earpieace and listen

attentively to the news. My dad is also all ears. According to the

news, there was an accident on the bridge this afternoon claiming the

lives of a family of four. The ogelekas are three in number. It cant

be them. But what is olivia doing there and who is the woman with

her?. Or was it not olivia. It was just a passing of the camera, but

it looked like her. I have to call tessy to make sure they are

alright. If olivia was there at the bridge, then tessy was also there.

I have to make sure they are fine and they weren't involved during the

accident.

"tehila isn't picking up her phone. I have been calling her since

around 4 this evening

my dad says.

"I'll call her daughter. I am sure they are fine" i say to assure him

but i am already panicking. I pace the sitting room as i dial her

number. My dad paces with me. It rings for a while then it connects.

"hello tessy are you okay? Where are you?. Is olivia with you?.please

tell me you are okay"i ramble at once. The line is silent for awhile.

"i am sorry but tessy is dead and so is olivia and the rest of her

family" the voice at the other end of the line says and the call cuts.

"what?!" i scream and my dad rushes to me

"what's wrong Manuel. You look pale"

"they are dead" i force out.

"what? Who?"

"tehila and her children. It must have been them in the accident at

the bridge" they cant all be dead. I saw olivia.this must be a prank.

Who answered her phone?. I have to find them. All this thoughts race

through my head and i feel dizzy. I stagger, but then my dad is beside

me, holding me up.

"emmanuel are you okay? My God, you are burning up! We have to take

you to the hospital, according to the site i read, a high fever spells

trouble for a cancer patient" my dad supports me and we walk to his

car

"i have to see tessy. We can go to the hospital later" i say weakly

"I'll make sure to find tessy and tehila but you are my first

priority. I cant lose you too. Please get in" i am too weak to argue

so i get in. My dad drives to the hospital, maneuvering with speed.

Its not like i am dying. I have felt worse.

When we get to the hospital, i am quickly hospitalized and some tests

are carried out on me.

I fell into a light slumber a while ago and the noise of the door

opening wakes me up. I open my eyes and see its my dad and Dr Alex.

"we have to transfer him to the state immediately, his tumor is

growing fast. It has to be operated fast or he might not live longer

than six months." Dr Alex says to my dad

"i thought you said it can be done in Nigeria"

"there's now a complication because of the fast growth of the tumor"

"what could have caused it?"

"there is a thesis that stress deteriorates pancreatic cancer. You

have to act fast"

"ok Dr Alex, we will leave tomorrow morning. I just have to make the

arrangements"

"good. I have to attend to other patients now, so bye" Dr Alex says

and leaves the room.

"i don't want to leave" i tell my dad.

"what do you mean by that?. Do you want to die?"

"we have to find tessy"

"i have already told you, your health first. I promise to find tessy

but you have to live for you to see her"

"no dad i--"

"we are leaving tomorrow and that is final. I am prepared to drag you

into the plane if you refuse. I am also very worried but you come

first!"

"please dad. This is my last request"

"okay son. I will go to their house today and check on them.

matter the news, we are still living tomorrow" he says and i nod. He

sighs then leave the room. I say a little prayer to the heavens to

keep olivia and tessy alive for me then i doze off.

I am awoke the next morning by my dad and the tears on his face

confirms the news. Its true. They are all dead. I release a painfilled

wail from my soul.

"no! No!" it cant be truth dad.

"i am sorry son" my dad says but i stand up from my bed and start to

remove the IV in my hand

"i'll find them myself. It can be true" i say and i drag the needles out.

"Manuel! You are going to hurt yourself" my dad says and tries to stop

me from leaving.

"let me go!" i scream but i am too weak to free myself from my father.

I scream and struggle for a while until a nurse comes in and injects

me. My eyes go blurry and i hit the floor.

My eyes feels sore. I open them and see my dad and a white doctor

beside my bed. I must be in London already. I close my eyes again and

cry.
