Ultimate Sacrifice - Episode 14
Maribel’s Diary
What doesn’t kill you make you stronger,
Stand a little taller
Doesn’t mean am lonely when am alone,
What doesn’t kills you makes you a fighter…na na na na…
I can’t sing the rest of the lyrics because am unfamiliar with it.
It’s been a week since i last updated. I come bearing sad news. My sister’s leukemia is back. I don’t think it’s going away this time. She was six years old when it began. We had been on the school playground and she started nose bleeding.
Our teachers thought it was due to the heat for we were playing in the hot sun and sent her to the school nurse where she was given first aid.

. When we got back home mum was not there, she was covering a late night shift for a friend and had left us with her sitter. She never knew what had happened that day.
From that day onwards Mary Ann complained of being tired and never joined us while we played. A week later she fainted in class and was rushed to the hospital

. My mum was called and joined us in the hospital. I had insisted on going with my sister. I didn’t understand much of what was going on but from the tears on my mama’s eyes I knew something was very wrong.
My mum babysat me while the doctors took care of my sister. The doctor had come back and I remember the statement he rolled out.
“Am sorry Miss. Maina but i have bad news, your daughter has blood cancer.”
My mother had wailed.
She fought bravely and two years later she got into remission. There were no traces of cancerous cells in her blood. I have no idea how mum managed the bills but i had been there every step of the way.
Till yesterday. The doctor said she has two weeks to live.
If this thing does not make me stronger what would it make me?
