Unwavering Guts - Episode 16

It's Friday night. Ada decided to have a sleep over with Bayo. Francis had gone home for a weekend break. Ada came over at 10:00pm. They were watching a movie; a comedy film. Bayo had bought popcorn earlier for the movie to make it look like it's a cinema. 

" I wonder where you get these hilarious movies" Ada said laughing 

" From the net, It's like coffee for a sleep over" 

" You're right about that, I mean I would've slept off by now but this movie keeps getting hilarious" 

" And I knew you'll like it" 

" Look at this!" She caught Bayo's attention and then stuffed popcorn in his mouth laughing 

" You got me there" 

" Oh my God!!" 

" It won't work" 

" I'll still get you" 

" Please get me my phone" Bayo noticed his phone was ringing. " Hello, mum? This one you're calling by this time and why are you crying?.. Is it that urgent?.. Alright, I'll grab the next bus" He said hanging up his phone 

" What's the problem" Ada asked 

" I don't know, it's my mum and she sounded distressed, I'm so sorry but she said to come home now" 

" I'm coming too" 

" No you.. You can stay" 

" I said I'm coming" she took off her pajamas, got dressed up and left with Bayo

They both reached Bayo's home as early as the first bus

. Bayo could see many more cars packed outside. He thought it was a party but there was no music heard. He looked confused when they both got inside. 

When they got inside, they could see people mourning including neighbours but Bayo couldn't find his parents. He went upstairs with Ada but left her at the passage way to his parents room. When he got inside the room he could only see his uncle and his mother, his uncle calming his mother down who was in tears. 

" Mum?! What's happening?! Why are you crying?! Where's Dad?!" 

" Bayo calm down" Bayo's uncle; Mr. Kayode said taking Bayo outside the room " Your father sort of.." he exhales " he kicked the bucket" 

" No!!" Bayo said, tears already filled his eyes. Ada who has been in the passage way and overheard everything went to calm Bayo down " My dad wasn't ill, this is murder" Tears dropped down his cheek. 

His uncle could only watch Bayo as he laments. His mother was speechless. Bayo went in to try to calm his mother. His uncle knew Ada was not a family member but he kept quiet till Bayo went in to calm his mother. 

" Young lady, are you a relative? " He asked 

Ada was confused, and spechless still thinking. She couldn't hear what Mr. Kayode asked her

" Lady?" Mr. Kayode said tapping her

 " Wha..!!" She shouted with shock

" Who are you?" 

" I'm Adaku, sir" 

" Ok? You're not a relative, right?" 

" I'm a friend, sir" 

Bayo was still in pain and thinking 

" Why now, No.., at this vulnerable time? He hasn't even invested in me, my fees, my mum, God!!" he thought still crying silently. He cries more when he looks at his mother, the way she looked frustrated and spechless " Everything will be okay mum" he cuddling his mother. 

Mr. Oladupo's exit was a painful one. His burial was full of mourning, laments, regrets. Ada was the only one keeping Bayo in one piece and Bayo was the only one keeping his mother in one piece. Bayo now had to be one to sleep next to his mother. Their maid, driver and gateman were all sent off duty.

It was time to unveil Mr. Oladupo's will. Bayo and his mother were present including his only uncle, his father's younger brother. The family lawger; Mr. Bernard arrived after a short while. He exchanged greetings with all of them. 

He read a biography of Mr. Oladupo, then opened his briefcase and brought out the will to be read. 

" It reads here that.., that all his property should be given to one Mr. Kayode, except for his Mercedes car which is given to his wife" 

" Nonsense!! Give me that" Bayo said collecting the will from Mr. Bernard " This, this was manipulated, who bribed you?!" He said holding Mr. Bernard aggressively 

His mother held him by his arm and dragged him off Mr. Bernard. Mr. Bernard only shook his head and left including Mr. Kayode who left after him

" I'm sorry sir" Mrs. Oladupo pleaded

" My father can't write that nonsense!! You won't go unpunished!! You won't!! You better get the original will!! " Bayo said angrily
