When Love Travels - Episode 2
An Hour Later, Same day
“Fine Oga I hail o. Your boy don come o”. Gbegege, the popular street beggar called out from Ken’s veranda.
It was a habit for Ken, to scribble some five naira note through his torn net to Gbegege. But this evening he didn’t. What a day! He was broke and broken hearted.
“Fine Oga, help your boy. Hunger wan finish me o!”
“Gbegege, money no dey today. If you give me money now, me sef go collect”
“Hahaha. My fine Oga, no talk like that o. You na millionaire nah”
“Gbegege abeg dey go. Me sef dey hungry”.
Few minutes after the beggar had left, Ken made up his mind to sell his phone, which was barely worth a thousand naira. His intention was to use the money to buy Aria an earring, which he saw in a shop some time ago.
“Maybe that could change her mind” he reasoned.
The aggressive ringtone from his phone interrupted his thought stream. It was Caterpillar calling.
“Ken where you dey?”
“Caterpillar when you dey pay me my money? Ehn!?”
“Guy leave that one first. Come meet me for our regular night club”
“Mehn, Aria just break up with me

“You dey mad! F*ck love. You remember that our bet ticket? That one of 44 matches!? As I dey talk to you now, if Netherlands score Ireland, we don become multi-millionaires o”
“Caterpillar, when will you grow up for heaven’s sake? Forget about gambling. You remember wetin happen to my elder brother bah?”
“Gooooooooooooal!” Caterpillar shouted. The line went dead.
Ken tried to call back, but he remembered he was short of airtime.
“No! We couldn’t have won that bet. No way!” he thought out loud.
After some seconds, he put on his old wrinkled brown polo shirt and dashed off to the club.
************************************
She has tried getting the awful thoughts off her mind. The awful thought of what happened last night. For the first time in ten years, she was having alcohol. She felt it was the only way to blot the terrible thought off her head.
She paced round her spacious well decorated bed room, with one hand akimbo and the other holding the glass cup. Red, was the theme colour of the bedroom, which coincidentally blended well with the colour of the night robe and fluffy slippers she was wearing.
At intervals, she would cry out, break her marriage pictures and gulp a glass of scotch blended whiskey.
Miranda could hardly believe she was r*ped some hours ago. She paid for her husband’s sins.
She took a stroll down memory lane. She remembered how lovey-dovey she and Adekunle were, during their University days. She recalled the day; he proposed marriage to her during her convocation. Then the first day she caught him cheating, then the second, the third, and she let out a sharp scream.
No one responded because all the domestic staff had travelled for the holidays. The house was empty. The only sound that could be heard in her room was the sound of her fast-pounding heart and the ticking clock, which had gone five marathon rounds since she started drinking.
She made up her mind to go to a night club. This was her last resort to release the weight off her chest. She picked up a bunch of car keys, selected the one she wanted and ran down the stairs.
