Kaiya a girl of seventeen, cuts the grass in her father's compound. Her friend of the same age, Razim a young boy walks in.
Razim: You are so good with the cutlass, that one wonders why the ALMIGHTY made you a girl.
Kaiya: Razim
(They hit hands twice as the warriors do in greeting)
Razim: Let me get another cutlass, so we'all finish this quickly. I have good news to share (he goes into the hut and comes out with a cutlass. They cut the grass in few minutes).
Kaiya: So what's the good news? What happened?

Kaiya: (frowns)Don't call me a woman.
Razim: Looking like a boy two summers younger than me does not make you a man (he packs the grass).

Razim: I am an hour older, but as my mother said you are slow in growing.

Kaiya: Baba, the palm wine is much today.
Qurak: The ALMIGHTY himself tapped it. Where is your mother? Did she not hear my voice?
Kai ya: She is in the barn
Razim: Father, I leave now, my regards to mother.
Qurak: Take this to your father, my good friend. He deserves to be the first to taste my wine.
Razim: Thank you. I am sure he will appreciate it.
(He exits with Kaiya in tow)
Zayar: My husband, you are welcome. How was your day?
Qurak: It was a good day. Razim is becoming a man, I might have to warn him off my daughter.
Zayar: She hasn't seen her first blood yet so do not fear
Qurak: One doesn't speak such matters.
Zayar: I'm worried, she is of age to marry. But, what sort of man will marry a lady who looks like a small boy with long hair?
Qurak: A wise man, who has good tastes. (He seats on his favorite brozen chair).
Zayar: A woman who hasn't started seeing her monthly visitor can't conceive
Qurak: It's just taking time, not something unheard of.
Zayar: (with doubt) I hope. Should I bring in your food?
Qurak: Do. My stomach has started singing.
