An Arranged Marriage - Episode 14

I exit the through the door he's holding, the rain has mercifully slowed, I don't bother glancing at him, just help Aroofa bring Aroos down from the car.

He walks in front of us, and we follow, slowly, because I'm limping, the cold has destroyed any sense of relief I had before.

Now my leg is just numb and it feels as if it's going to break soon.

Wow, maybe i should have come to an hospital sooner.

As soon as we clear the door a wheelchair is in front of us, a male nurse holding it.

Oh, good.

I instantly stir Aroos to it but Kane clamps a hand on my shoulder, gently pulling Aroos aside and making me seat down. The nurse dissappears. 

I blink.

. No.. You.." I begin to protest.

"You are going to be grateful you sat down, your leg looks nasty" A feminine voice says and I turn to it. The lady in front of me is wearing a doctor's coat and she looks kind as her eyes roves all over me. She looks like an Angelina Jolie clone, long hair and long legs, very very long hair, she looks close to be in her late 30s but the bit of age does her no harm at all. 

"What?"

. I echo. 

"You are limping so much you look like a grenade blew your leg, you should keep the weight off it" She says and I don't argue, Aroofa offers to wheel me so I don't say a word.

She leads us to an examination room, before turning to hug Kane.

"You didn't tell me you were back Kane"She says as she gently smiles at Aroos, making her seat on the bed.

" It slipped my mind "Kane says, the only apology he's offering. I look between them and its obvious he is familiar with her, not in a maternal or familiarl way but something else.

My mind leaves that when she begins to shine a little torch in Aroos's eyes, my sister although exhausted looks strong and like her normal self,She just looks like she need lots of sleep and maybe lots of ice-cream.

"Well don't let it slip your mind again, I have missed you and I would have been very glad if you had called me in advance, not calling me just to tell me you are bringing guests over" She says, and I'm getting the feeling that I and my sisters are the guests. 

And he called her? When? He did no such thing when we were in the car.

Does that mean he already called her to tell her we were coming even before I agreed to come to an hospital with him?

My eyes flies to him and his eyes are there, waiting for me to put two and two together, but there is something else, darkening his eyes.

"Well, she is fine, if not a little stressed, I will give her something to make her rest, now let's see that leg of yours" She says and I feel hands on my leg, my eyes fly down to see Kane taking off my sneakers and socks, when did he get there.

"You don't have to I can do it" I say stiffly but he doesn't say a word, just continues what he is doing.

I feel eyes trying to bore holes in my head and I turn to it, it's the doctor, if looks could kill.

I blink and her face has cleared, it is as if I imagined the bitter jealousy on her face a minute ago.

Someone sucks in a breath and I look down at my feet, it's a plethora of blues and purples and blacks.

Oh God. 

Nothing can happen to my leg. 

I begin to panic, what if. What if..

"I'm sorry" Aroos says softly and I swallow the panic before forcing a smile.

"It's fine, it's going to be good as new soon" I say and she looks like she doesn't believe me.

The doctor leads me down a hall into a room, saying I have to get an xray.

I refuse to think how much this will cost.

When we are done with the xray she wheels me back to the examination room.

"So, are the both of you dating?" She asks and I startle..

"What?"

"You and Kane" She says matter of factedly.

I don't know why I didn't just say no but I find my self asking.

"Any reason why you want to know?" She does not reply, just wheels me directly into the room, Kane's eyes is on me, he must have seen something because they slide to the doctor behind me, who still has not introduced herself.

He doesn't say a word, Aroos and Aroofa are on the bed, giggling over something, Kane I'm sure, I don't tell them to stop, it's good seeing Aroos giggling, so soon after that jerkwad Edward.

"Well,you must have guessed it by now, she has a mild sprain, nothing a few days of pressure off her foot won't heal" She says, writing something on a piece of paper.. "I'm prescribing a pain reliever and a soothing jell you can use on the foot" She says and I nod.

"Did this new sprain affect any other thing? Did it make the former injury worse?"Kane asks and my heart stops.

My eyes flies to his, hoping he will shut up.

"Former injury?" The doctor echos.

"Yes."He says, waiting for his answer..

" Please.. "my voice cracks".. That's enough "I say and his eyes comes to me..

The doctor looks between us but my eyes are on the twins who look blissfully distracted..

" There's no... "The doctor starts but Kane stops her with a hand up.

" Thank you jenny"He says before kneeling to help me wear my sock, passing my sneaker to Aroofa who has stood up, in preparation of our exit.

My eyes go to look at the top of his head but his eyes are there, and from this position I can see them clearly, they are really black.

My breath hitches and I feel something unfurl in the pit of my stomach.

I've tried all day, all day to hold whatever this feeling is at bay but seeing him this close, in front of me and him being kind in his own way, the feeling unfurls.

And I unashamedly know that this thing I'm feeling is attraction.

I'm attracted to Caspian Kane King.
