Broken-Broken - Episode 26

SCARLET

“Hello Ma, yes please. The couple you asked for left the hotel a week ago.”

“Okay thank you.” I replied and ended the call abruptly. I have been fighting the urge to call the hotel since a week and few days ago that we came back and finally I did , only to discover they have left a day after we did.

Well, at least I could finally relax and it was time to feel empty.

I went back to the couch and began to skip through the channels but none caught my interest, I slammed the remote on the table and shut my eyes-----I could still feel his tongue, gliding on mine ….

Get a grip Scarlet! He is getting married soon!

I screamed at myself again….

Had I been too hard on him and on myself? No, I wasn’t. I did what was necessary…I was cold-yet I allowed myself to kiss him and I kissed him back. Maybe I shouldn’t have kissed him back , maybe I shouldn’t have allowed him to kiss me at all but no matter what-I wanted it ----I still want it.

Now I have been damned to sew my dream wedding dress for his wife! That just hurt terribly. I had to give Franca the whole idea and asked her to work on it instead

“Happy Val’s day sweety!” Atieno shouted from the hallway, in her hands were balloons and other items.

I faked a smile-I had forgotten.

“Happy Val Atty. Are you done for the day?”

“Yea.” She said, handing to me a balloon and a parcel. “Wanna go take my baby out for some treat with her daddy. Those are for you.”

I collected them and thanked her.

“Will Mark ever come take you out?” She asked.

“No, don’t think so, he’s very busy.” I replied. She looked at me suspiciously and nodded. She still had no clue about what was going on.

“Okay then.  SSee you soon.” She said and began to climb down the stairs.

I put on the TV, it was Bryan Adam’s song, ‘Forgive me’ that was playing…

The elevator dinged and Franca stepped in, holding the half-made wedding gown.

“Is everything okay?”

‘Yup. I have a date.” Franca said, dropping the gown into my laps.

“Wow! Thought you don’t wanna date any man again.”

“Yea, well, Lucia called me, she needs a shoulder to cry on so I gotta go. Plus I will finally get to ask her what eventually led to the whole Tanya stuff as we never got to hear about her again.

I watched as she hurriedly got back into the elevator and waved at me before I could say anything.

Great! This val would be the worst val ever! Now I would be stuck fixing the wedding gown.

I took it and stretched on the couch. The fabrics and the diamonds were well, interwoven and I needed to finish with the embroidery…the little design was so beautiful I couldn’t help but think, it wouldn’t be bad wearing it would it? At least , if it was stolen from me, the best I could do was see how I would look in it.

I walked to the big standing mirror at the section of the room. As a designer, I had mirrors everywhere…

Quickly, I removed my jumpsuit and slid into the gown. Much work still needed to be done but the little that was done was almost perfect. The diamonds set at the edge of the neck line sparkled against my dark skin….it was a ball gown with an illusion neckline…the veil was yet to be fixed.

The elevator dinged again. That must be Franca-I thought, maybe she forgot something but I was too captivated with my reflection that I wasn’t able to look away.

I looked like an angel----an angel that has been through hell and back  to finally ascend into the heavens.

“Franca…I can’t believe I am letting go of the gown…” I said to myself in the mirror, hoping Franca would hear me…I could feel moisture in the corner of my eyes.

“I look so beautiful Franca.”

I said as I stared at myself.

“She is really so lucky to have him and have this gown…” I smiled painfully. “I wish..i just wish I can ..at least..i don’t know….I just…why does life have to be so hard! I have everything I need Franca….but I can’t have ….” I stopped and covered my face in my hands.

“You can’t have what?”

Something leapt in me and, I turned around immediately.

I shut my eyes and opened them. No it couldn’t be. All suited up in a blue black suit was Lawrence and he looked even more dashing than ever…

“How..how …what are you doing here.?” I demanded but he was looking at my wedding gown…

“You look so breathtaking….like …an angel….” He was moving so close to me,still looking at the wedding gown all over.

He took my hand , raised it up to twirl me around so he could look at it even better. For no reason, I turned around for him---this was the first chance we would get to be alone.if it was a dream, well, I better enjoy it before I wake up.

“Will you be my val and have the first dance with me?”

I could see the desire and sincerity in his house as he asked, without letting go of my hand and I nodded without thinking.

He increased the Volume of the music that was playing ----

Then clasping my hand into my other hand while supporting my back with the other…we began to glide to the love song of Shania Twain-

Looks like we made it
