Crime To Love - Episode 27

Cyril interceded and begged the judge to excuse the girl to pass across her message. The judge allowed her and she brought the phone to Cyril played the recorder and raised the volume to the hearing of all in the courtroom. Chike on hearing the discussion from the recorder tried to escape from the court but was not allowed by the police at the door. The whole thing discussed by Chike, Onyeka, Flash and the other three boys at large was heard by all in the courtroom. Every person in the court was short of words, even Barr. Ogbu. He was infuriated at Onyeka who assured him of no traces at all to the crime committed. He remained motionless and ashamed of looking at the judge, for if Chike never made a move of trying to escape he would have stood in defense that the voice was not of that of Chike and co.

Chike’s mother cried uncontrollably but was held by the women in the courtroom. The commotion in the courtroom for over five minutes was later controlled when the clerk thundered, “order”. Cyril was already disappointed and tears rolled down his cheek. He said to the judge “my Lord seeing all this evidence, there is no doubt that the accused is guilty because he cannot deny his voice and even the nickname which everyone here known as “Flash”. In addition this evidence has proved to us that we have now got two other suspects to be among the people that conspired in the act

. And they are Chike Okoro and Onyeka Okeagu. It is very unfortunate that my best friend could even conspire to kill me because of LOVE, which I had for his sister. How I wish she never died oh! It’s quite unfortunate. Why couldn’t he tell me if he never liked the relationship between his sister and me? Anyway the crime has been committed. He burst out crying regardless of his office, the crowd and the court. The courtroom was very calm; the judge gave order for the two boys to be arrested. He asked the police make sure they arrested the other three boys who were at large.

. After that he delivered his judgment, which is death by hanging.                

The other three boys were brought inside the courtroom, handcuffed by the police sent by the DPO when Cyril called him on phone informing him of the suspicious parking before his house. There flash pointed at them as the three boys who were wanted by the court.

On the day the six boys were to be hanged Cyril was present and cried bitterly like a baby. He had no other reason for crying if not that the one he would receive a bullet for was the same person who sent a bullet to him and that has caused the death of his precious sister whom he Cyril has made great plans on how their future will look like, all has become an elusive vision. Chizoba sobs close to him when they were finally hanged he turned to Chizoba and said to her with tears soaked in his eyes “WHAT A SHAMEFUL CRIME COMMITTED TO LOVE” an innocent love, Chike has suddenly forgotten that one thing that is so constant in life is “CHANGE” his fear of my past has cut his life so short and made his parents loose two important people in their lives. “Love obviously can turn a killer to a saint and can still turn a saint to a killer let us not take for granted the power of love” He said calmly as he left with Chizoba.

Mrs. Udoka was being held by the people around her. Out of the motherly love she could not withstand watching her own son hanged and died like a common law defaulter. From the very day Chike was found guilty she has begged the court, Chike and her husband for the release of Chike at least if not for anything else but for the fact that she has lost her daughter already, Cyril wished he never went digging out for the killers of Jennifer for he could not stand himself losing two important people in his life.

At the scene of the hanging Chike’s dad walked up to the wife who is being held by the consolers around her and gave her some words of encouragement reminding her how hurt he is but there was nothing they could do to get Chike release for the law has made it that the penalty for a murderer is death. With the other three children of his, he asked Mrs. Udoka to enter the car and they drove out.
