Esperance - Episode 6
It was Noon and time for our lunch break. I didn't leave class so I sat on my desk.... Doing nothing but filling out my diary...of things unimportant. "Hey" Nessa greeted, walking into class. That was a bit of a surprise . Girls in class must consider me a jerk, I never talked to any, never stared at them. Never even thought of being friends with any of them. Not really being sure of what to say so I won't give out a wrong impression. I simply smiled... "You have a nice smile you know?" She teased. I chuckled and replied "all flattery, right?" She smiled nodding. "I thought as much" I answered. She offered her hand introducing herself "I'm Nessa" taking her hand I reciprocated "I'm Neil, Neil Dike. "I know already" she said, rather looking me in the face and holding my hand longer than expected . I smiled freeing my hand. Nessa broke the awkward silence. "So when did you enroll here?" Raising my eyebrows I answered "since junior secondary " oh! She exclaimed softly, I've been here just a year. "So how do you find it .....uhhhmm.... What's your name again?" I asked pretending to have forgotten her name so easily.. I just didn't need company but how do I tell her? She smiled replying "Nessa...

. And I think its nice here, the weather is good. Enugu's weather is generally good, unlike the North where we moved from; it could roast corn and also get burnt" I laughed. The bells sounded through the speakers and that sure meant ..."break was over" "I'll see you around, Neil" she said getting up to leave. "It was nice meeting you anyway" I said. "I think she's into you" Chika said from behind. Without looking behind I answered him saying "no one is into anyone here, she's just being nice" "Oh yeah? ... How come she isn't nice to some of us" "Dude, that's your palaver. If you want to be friends with her, you talk to her. Just leave me out of it and I'd appreciate it if you leave me alone right now. Me don't need petty talks" "Chill man, I'm just being curious" Chika said almost apologetically. I adjusted my collar buttons just as the animal husbandry teacher walked into class. He was still introducing his topic for the day's class when I drifted off in my imaginary boat; one place where life seemed flawless...

I was on my way to the local market .....and I saw her. All that beauty in one piece! Oh my!!!! Was she impeccable?! Her face could be used to draw to perfection, the oval shape of an egg. Her eyes were large and beamful, with lashes so curly and voluminous that at every blink of her eyelids they seemed to flutter. Her nose was bridgeless and her lips full and perfect. Her hair was full, chestnut brown and fell to her shoulders. She graced the ground instead of stepping on it. The sand under her I'm sure would be honoured to bear the beautiful burden of carrying her. She looked at me, the stare that could bring down kings and nobilities ... She smiled at me.. My heart leaped! Oh! what joy ripped my heart off it reins....
