Sarah:

"Jealous my foot! So infuriating. I can't stand hi-ouch!" I stop my

rambling as i barge into a solid form. My eyes encounter black silk

and i look way up before it meets the owner of the body i just walked

into. I am absolutely stun by his face. He is definitely what a dark

angel would look like if they really exist. He is so tall and his

shoulders look a mile wide. His body fill out the suit he is wearing

perfectly. Why do i keep encountering beautiful men these past few

days?

"Are you okay, miss?" his rich baritone voice snap me out of my daze.

"Oh, yea. Am sorry. I wasn't looking where i was going"

"Sarah?" How does he know my name?

"what? I ask confused

"You look so much like your mother"

"You knew my mother? How?" i ask

"Your mother is right. You really are beautiful" he says as his hand

goes to my cheek. I am too confuse to stop this stranger. Many

questions are running through my head. Didn't my mom die during

childbirth? How then does this stranger know her when he looks to be

around my age?

"Get your hands off her!" i turn to see Jake walking toward us. I move

backward and the stranger's hand fall to his side.

"i guess we will meet again Sarah

retreat into the crowd of buyers.

"Wait" I whisper but he doesn't stop.

"Are you okay?"Jake ask as soon as he finally gets to me.

"Who was that?" he ask and i shake my head.

"I dont know"

"You shouldnt let strangers touch you like that, Sarah" he scold and i nod.

"We are done right? Lets go" i tell him

"Wait, i have an apology present for you. I saw it when i was chasing

after you and i thought you would love it" he say, his eyes dancing

mischievously.

"Hmm. What is it?" I ask curiously.

"surprise!"Jake whisper yell as he sample a lingerie in my face.

"Gosh, Jake!" I exclaim and hit his shoulder mildly.

"Dont you like it? The cute bow suits you perfectly" he says while

waving it in the air. People are starting to look at us probably

because they recognise Jake.

"You are crazy" I say and hurry away but Jake continue waving the

lingerie as he follow me. I can't help but laugh at the absurdity of

the situation. I stop running and double over in laughter.

"Yay i made you laugh. You looked like you saw a ghost earlier."Jake

says. I stop laughing and stand upright. My soon-to-be step brother

has a sweet side and i love it.

"Thanks bro" I say and he flips the lingerie on my face.

"You can't reject a present little sis. Its rude" he says then pout. I

remove the lingerie from my face and smile.

"Okay. I accept your inappropriate gift"

"Check the pocket"Jake says

"It has a pocket?" I ask then find a little pocket under the bow. I put

my hand in and i retrieve a little hairpin from inside.

"Its beautiful" I say

"That's your real present. Now, lets get out of here. I am famished" he answers

"What about our purchases?"

"It will be delivered to the orphanage tomorrow. We need to go home so

you can feed me" he says then take my hand as we walk out.

"How did you manage to burn the potato while the inside isn't even

properly cooked?"Jake ask incredulously. We are back home and as

expected of a sister, i volunteered to make dinner but the plate of

fried potato in front of us looks nothing like dinner.

"I dont know. Maybe the groundnut oil was too hot" i answer quietly.

"You dont even know if it was too hot?"

"I can't cook okay? I can't" i fire at him. I dont even know why am

getting angry. My cooking isn't normally this bad.

"What? How am i going to marry you out to anyone proudly, when you

can't even fry potato properly?"

"Is it my fault that i went from one boarding school to another? Is it

my fault that there was no one to teach me and when i entered the uni

i had a friend who always cooked for the both of us?" I ask before

bursting into tears. Why am i crying now? I must look stupid to Jake.

"Are you crying?"Jake ask and this just make me increase the tempo of my cries.

"Am sorry. I'll eat it okay?. Mmm it looks delicious" he tells her

while patting my back. I take in deep breathe for awhile before i look

up.

"Am sorry. My emotions are just all over the place. Its that time of

the month and that stranger earlier reminded me of my mother" I say

while wiping my tears. Jake take my hand suddenly and pull me to the

sitting room.

"Sit" he instruct and i obey diligently. I watch as he move to the

kitchen and bring back two cups of warm tea. He hands one to me then

sit beside me on the couch without being too close.

"You want to talk about it?" he ask and i shake my head.

"Your mom is very nice" I say after some minutes of silence and he nods.

"I have always wondered what it felt like to have a mother. It was

really hard when i was a kid and no one would come to any of my school

parties. I felt unwanted. I still do" i continue.

"What about your father?"

"I think he blames me for mom's death. I think she died when giving

birth to me" I say while blinking back tears. I have always blamed

myself for my mother's death and dad's sadness.

"you think?"Jake ask

"Yea. He never talks about her. He never talks to me except when

necessary. Like to tell me not to disgrace him" i say then sniff.

"What that stranger said to me made me feel that she isn't dead. What

if she didn't die but just abandoned me instead?"

"You won't know the answer if you just sit here. Why don't you call

your dad and ask him right now?"

"He won't tell me nothing. He always shuts down when i ask about her" i tell him.

"We can just look for her through the internet. Do you know her

name?"Jake ask and i shake my head.

"Dad never told me."

"Something is fishy about all this. I think your dad is hiding

something but i am going to find out what it is i promise you"Jake

says

"Thank you, Jake"

"No worries. I'll get a private investigator to find everything about

your mom and dad. Now, sleep. You look tired" he says

"I dont think i will be able to sleep tonight. My brain is just too

busy" I tell him

"Not when you have the greatest singer in the world."

He says then give me a crooked grin.

"Put your head on my lap and stretch your legs on the couch" he

instruct and i obey.

. Jake start massaging my head as he hums a slow

song. For once in my life i feel cared for even if i know it wouldn't

last. By tomorrow, both our masks would be up and we wouldn't show our

feelings out. My wish for tonight, let this night never end.

"You are not unwanted, Sarah. You can't begin to imagine how much i

feel for you even in this small space of time that we've known each

other. I can see myself falling for you but i have to stop this. For

both our sakes." I hear Jake whisper before he peck my forehead.

It takes everything in me to keep my eyes close in the pretense of

sleep. All i want to do right now is tell Jake i feel something for

him too but i know that this isn't right. In a month, we will part

ways and meet again to become siblings.
