Finding Solace - Episode 27

Thank you so much for your wishes and prayers. I am sniffing on an handky as I read your comments. You guys are the best. So I am so excited because exam’s finally over, so my books are just at the bottom of my wardrobe.

So we are so back on. We should be through with the story this week by Gods grace, then we can all relax lol. Thank you guys for understanding and for being so supportive. Blowing you kisses.

NICK

They came in an hour later, I was actually relieved as I was beginning to lose my mind.

‘What happened?” Rasaq asked, loud and clear as he sighted me hanging around. The bag in his hand looked heavier than usual, and in his left hand was a big gun, that comforted me a bit. The other man walked slowly behind him.

“It’s my fiancé, she was attacked this morning . I don’t know what happened, she’s still at the E.R.”

“Where did she go to?” The other man whose name I forgot asked.

“She only told me she wanted to hit the town. I didn’t ask.”

The two exchanged glances.

“You don’t know the movement of your spouse?”

I could sense the judgement in his tone .

“I and my spouse have not been on good terms lately, so I never bothered to ask.” I said sternly.

“Was that why you were drinking yourself to stupor earlier?” Rasaq asked, his eyes fixed on me.

“No.” I replied

‘So why don’t we go check on your spouse?” .

The three of us marched to Fiona’s room. After much persuasion, the doctor allowed us to talk to her.

I have never seen her so quiet, weak and helpless. She was starring at us unable to even pull a face as a sign of expression.

“Hi babe. How are you? You will be fine okay? I promise. These two men are here to help. Can you remember who attacked you?” I asked calmly.

Her eyes were blank and then full of horror. Then she started panting. “Fi..Fi. uf…oulf…”

I sighed. There was a tube in her mouth and she couldn’t talk very well.

“I understand that Fiona is in danger but who attacked you? Where did you see Fiona?”

“Who is Fiona?” Rasaq asked but I ignored him.

“Fiona….ulf…Fiona awuf….” She kept panting.

This was not helping. I couldn’t even grab a thing.

The other man stepped forward.

“Young lady. Take it easy so we can understand you. We understand you are agitated but we are here to help. I know that something did this to you. SO if I’m close, let me know. Were you in an accident?”

She shook her head.

“Attacked?”

She nodded.

“By someone?”

She hesitated, nodded , then shook her head.

“You need to be sure. Was it someone that attacked you or an animal?”

She hesitated, nodded twice.

“This doesn’t make any sense. “I finally said, getting tired and worried sick for Fiona. “Where did you see Fiona? Why did you bring her name up?”

“Keep calm Mr Nick!” The no-name man snapped at me and I looked at him coldly.

“She is not making any sense and someone’s life is in danger, she is saying an animal and someone attacked her….”

The man ignored me and faced her. “This person that attacked you, did she or he change into the animal before attacking you?”

I could feel her face relaxing and then she nodded, now looking at me expectantly.

 Seems all these people were going crazy.

“Okay, so what are you saying?” I asked.

“She is saying that the animal that attacked her was a person or is.”

Okay, I would need a drink right now. It was either I was going deaf or they were going nuts.

“This animal, was it a wolf?” The man asked again and she excitedly nodded multiple times before the  two men exchanged glances. I was now leaning against the wall, watching them. I wasn’t going to partake in their craziness.

“This happened where?”  Rasaq asked her.

“Oaks..” She replied and I gasped.  “Oaks? What were you doing there? That place is out of the city!”

The look the man sent me kept me quiet.

“Were you there alone?”

She shook her head and that got my attention again.

“Who took you there and how did Fiona get to be there too?”

I ignored the man again.

She shut her eyes. “Sent her away. Saw you kissing. Detective followed. Detective died . I traced with a driver. Driver dead. Fiona changed . Attacked me.”

She must have used all her remaining strength to say all that. The machine started beeping faster.

I knew the doctor would be here soon. If I could make a sense out of that. Fiona was sent away by her because she saw us kissing, then detective followed and he died. Killed by who? Then she followed and she was attacked too..by Fiona?

“Babe, you sent Fiona away?” I asked her again and she nodded, the beeping continued and her eyes were closing.

“So the detective died , killed by who?”

“Please you will need to leave this room this minute!” The doctor shouted at us.

Rasaq asked as we got to the common room.

“She is my friend, she stayed with me for some time before vanishing and now I know who sent her away.” I replied. I knew she could never have left me like that and Yvonne just proved that. So she has been lying to me all these while.

“She was staying with you? Oh…was it the girl we saw that time we came?”

I nodded and the two exchanged glances.

“She looked so much like a lady we were chancing some weeks back. She vanished. So tell us, how well do you know her?”

“What is your business with that?” I said defensively.

“Our business is that she may not be the innocent woman you believe she is. So answer us now.” The no-name man ordered.

I was beginning to hate this man for real…

“I hit her with my car accidentally and she lost her memory.”

“When did this accident occur?” Rasaq asked.

“Many weeks back, I was coming from a party with Yvonne. She just came out of the woods and I hit her. She has been with me since then.”

“Well Nick, I think you have been accommodating the person who killed your family and who may have attacked your fiancé.”

“I do not understand.” I replied.

“Fiona is the wolf!” Rasaq shouted angrily.

“That’s preposterous. Fiona is not an animal. She is a human being!” I replied.

“She is a werewolf and we are still having a full moon. In an hour time, the full moon will disappear, we need to go. So either you believe it or not, we are going to capture her, then kill her.”

This didn’t make any sense.

. Before I could talk to them again, they were leaving the building so I followed.

“Please, atleast let me come with you. To show you she is not who you think she is. Besides, I love her and I want to see her again. This is all a misunderstanding.”

They hissed at me . “You are useless. You have no skill or power. Go back to your girlfriend.”

I waited outside till they drove out of sight. I checked the time, it was 4.A.M on the dot. I quickly got into my car and followed them. I had to see where this madness would end.
