Myopic - Episode 3

Waking up the next morning felt like a whole life's work to remi. The noise of her crying baby didn't make it easier for her although it made her feel less sleepy but her body still feels so weak. "when did i finally sleep off" she thought to herself as she carried her baby out of bed trying to coo her to keep quiet. The night before had seem very long and unending. But in all she was so glad she had a little bit of sleep if not the sermon session in church would have paid the price. Checking the time she realized she has less time to dress and prepare for church but still have to go all the same if not for anything but for the sake of her marriage which is taking a wrong turn already. She tiptoed to her room trying not to wake her husband who has finally fallen deeply asleep. Staring at his innocent looking face as he slept she could see color had drained from his face.her husband is looking pale what on earth has she done she thought to herself as she kept on arranging her things for church.the guilt of leaving the house without making him a meal crossed her mind but she countered it with the excuse of the availability  beverages, cereals and food drinks in the fridge "he can have any of those" she said shoving her hand sideways like she was getting rid of the thought physically. After dressing herself and her daughter up in an attire that she saw befitting she picked up a piece of paper to pen a note down to her husband 

---'gone to church to pray for your sins to be forgiven.'---- 

After which she left for church in her car

. Driving to church alone felt a bit abnormal to her, being her first time driving to church alone after three years. Since getting married she had never had the cause to drive alone to church it had always been herself and debo chatting and having fun in the car every Sunday morning, the arrival of their baby which she was scared would make things less interesting rather added more spice to their sunday morning drives  her innocent laughter filling the car whenever she gets excited makes it even more fun. "what changed lord" "who is this mystery woman trying to steal my joy" she drove into the church parking lot before saying "God it's all in your hands". Getting to church she knew she was late the sermon was about starting. Irrespective of the delays the church service still ended on a very good note for remi after praying and singing in the presence of her creator she felt way better than she was before. she was leaving the church premises when her phone rang, lara was calling her phone, connecting her hands free (ear piece) she picked the call with mix feeling of both panic and excitement the panic was for her hoping lara hadn't canceled their appointment but the excitement was just because whenever she speaks to lara she feels ten times better. "Hello Remi, hope you are feeling better" said lara in a cheerful voice from the other end of the line "am feeling better" remi replied before going into details of what happened the night before, while telling lara about everything remi was feeling extremely relieved almost like a heavy weight was being lifted off her shoulder. At least she is able to tell someone about her evil genius plan "i hope he is ok remi" "yes he is" she replied as it started dawning on her anything could have happened to him in his weak state and she had also switched off her phone all through the church service. "am sure he is fine" she repeated out loud  as if trying to reassure herself "ok if you say so" lara replied "so about the mystery woman remi, do you suspect anybody" "none that i know about" remi replied slowly, trying to think about, its so funny how the thought hadn't crossed her mind "maybe a neighbour, friend, colleagues, even your friend remi" lara continued but really their was no one remi could think of first they don't have live in neighbours the house they live in was a wedding gift to them by her own parents and their outdoor neighbors are mostly married women with children and busy careers ahead of them, saying she is the only non career women amongst them wont be an exaggeration. Also  at his workplace every one knows he is the son inlaw to the Chief Executive officer so whoever is doing that has her job on the line and as for friends she do not keep friends. Having explaining all that to lara they were both quiet over the phone for a while then lara broke the silence by saying "with men you can't be too sure" the statement she made brought remi back to the question she had always wanted to ask lara. "how do you cope with your husband being far away from you and your children" lara responded with a deep sigh before replying " Dear, America is far that i know but with understanding we adjust to things and it also gives me the freedom to practice my profession giving my clients the time they need""you are both coming today right?" she asked "yes we are for sure" remi replied "try not to kill him before then" lara said sarcastically before ending the call. 

The phone conversation she had with lara seems like exactly the eye opener she needed all this while she had been handling things with levity hoping debo himself will confessed and seek forgiveness but till now none of that had happened things might even be serious than she had earlier thought. Arriving her compound she saw another car asides her husband's own who had come to visit she thought. She hurriedly left her car and rushed to the living room welcomed with the aroma of food which has  filled up the air she needed no one to tell her someone is definitely in her kitchen, but who?.
