Mazi Okafor
"Here is your food my lord" Eberechi, okafors first wife placed it before him in his obi, he smiled at her as she opened it, as she genuflected and left, Okafor caught sight of Oluchi carrying an empty pot towards the stream, he looked at the well cooked vegetable soup with goat meat and stock fish with pounded yam and was satisfied already, for all his wives, he preferred Oluchi's food. He washed his hand and cut a lump..at least this was food.
Okafor was a well known farmer and hunter in the village of Chiolu, he was well built in his younger days and was a wrestler who was famous until he was thrown. He had many plots of land but was mostly seen hunting, he left the farming for his wives although he had a plot he cultivar himself. His father had been a fisherman and and grandfather a palmwine tapper but he had always failed in those areas and so stopped trying. He had a large compound on the pathway to the igwes palace and in it he maintained three wives with their children. Eberechi his first wife was a quiet, huge woman who was dark complexioned, he had married her when he was 21and a successful wrestler, his father had thought he needed a wife and brought him one, she had given him two daughters in their 20 years of marriage, Ezinma the second wife was a fair complexioned woman, tall and average sized, with a loud mouth, he had married her when she was 20 then the beauty queen of the village rejecting all suitors till he told his fellow men he would marry her before three market days and had succeeded where other men failed, she had bore him twins after one year of their marriage and had since been having miscarriages.. his last wife Oluchi
He had seen this one himself, then he had been contemplating on how to get more sons since the gods had decided to close up Ezinmas womb after the twin boy and girl

Oluchi had been 15 when he first saw her, he had watched her till she was 18 before he approached her father, her father had not agreed to let her go being the only girl among three brothers and his favorite but he had finally married her when she was 21 after her father died and now after three years she was yet to conceive for him, not that he was bothered at least he had other children, but it pained him to see that the wife he had chosen to marry out of land be could not even have a miscarriage, he didn't want to believe she was barren because her mother had 3boys, he couldnt also send her out of the house, to where, it was still too early to worry after all he knew families who waited for 8years. He sometimes thought about marrying another wife that would give him more children for his farms but he thought better of it, not that he couldnt take care of them, as a titled man he could afford 10wives but no thanks..he was already frustrated with the ones he had.
