Phoenix Reborn: My True Brother - Episode 5
Chapter 5
Months later and the Idrisi girl that everyone had come to fondly call Dee had undergone a drastic transformation. She'd gone from shy and harmless to calculating and ruthless like her father. She and Amin made the perfect duo where she was cunning and tactful, he had the strength and durability. She was faster and smarter but he was thorough and carried himself with a brutal elegance that matched none other. They'd grown so close to each other you couldn't keep them apart. They were each other's support and confidants, especially during the times Amir blew a fuse. It was however one moment, exactly a year after her mother's death that Dee got to truly understand how cold the man she'd learnt to call father could truly get.
Days prior to that fateful day, she'd grown distant and shut down. No one could tell what was bothering her and Amin's attempts at getting her to talk to him hit a dead end. On that particular day she'd refused to come down for breakfast and after she'd missed her first lesson, their tutor had sent for their dad from the Karachi border where he'd gone to three days ago on business he'd refused to tell them about. And unlike the other times when he'd take them along, he'd left them in his house in the city

. Four hours later, Amir had stormed the house furious and went straight to her room. The look on his face was enough to tell him his sister was in for a nasty punishment and the smirk on their tutor's face mad him so mad.
She'd been laying on her bed wishing she could see her mom or at least visit her grave when her door flew open. She'd turned ready to bit off the head of whoever it was but words failed her as she stared into the face of the man she'd grown to love and fear in equal measure.
"Do you have any idea how embarrassing it is to be pulled from official business because my daughter has decided to throw a tantrum? What's wrong with you?" He yelled at her so loudly her ears stung. She however managed to pull herself together enough to whisper, "I'm sorry." A statement whose response was a slap so hard she heard ringing in her ears. Before she could recover, he'd dragged her out of bed to the basement. A place he used to torture slaves and prisoners.

. He'd tied her to the pole in the middle of the room and gave her twenty five lashes to the back using his special whip. He loved this one in particular because it had metal ends that stripped the flesh with each strike. The fact that he was about to use it on a six year old didn't faze him in the least. He'd left a really important meeting to be here and she'd pay for it. He rarely hit them but when he did, he made sure they would not soon forget it.
"Go clean yourself up and head to your lessons. Make sure you eat something as well. You have three hours. We'll talk about this at dinner," he'd said so low it had sent chills down her spine. Somehow, his quiet angry was more pronounced than his yelling angry.
"Yes father," she'd replied after struggling to stand while avoiding his gaze. She knew any sign of weakness would only anger him more. Which was the reason she'd focused all her energy into not crying with each lash.
