"so where are you from?"

Flora inquired from mercy who had been so nervous on the way both couples glared at her.

"i am from Nakuru ma"

she replied politely. Felix was sitting beside her at the dining and he noticed her anxiety. He pressed his hand on her thigh beneath the table and gave her a reassuring look. How ever, he took cognizance also that she had barely touched her food so he resolved to help. He collected her spoon from her, filled the spoon with the jellof rice and located it to her mouth and she opened up for it.

"aww, so so romantic"

Mirabell blurted .

"this love is worth emulating. Can you see that?"

she ejaculated. Chief Gavin was irritated that he had to scold his son.

"why do you have to feed her? Is she a handicap?"

Felix frowned at his father's aggressive speech but didn't allow that to truncated the moment.

"so what about your parents?"

Flora asked again.

"they are late"

mercy replied as she bowed down with a sad grimace. Felix lifted her face and put a spoon filled food into her mouth.

"you mean you are an orphan?"

the older lady requested further.

"yes. But I am fully grown before i lost them"

she replied immediately she swallowed the food.

"what happened to your parents? How did they die?"

Chief Gavin inquired after the meal. "dad, that's a long story" Felix objected.

"she knows how to make it brief" Gavin protested

"alright right sir"

Mercy said giving Felix an -i am ok- look. She narrated her story but didn't made mention about Frank and his brutality especially the illicit bed service so they won't describe her wrong. All the members of the family sympathized her misfortune apart from chief Gavin.

"i am sorry about your calamity but my reputation is very important. I'm sorry my son can't be with you" he asserted.

"Dad!"

felix screeched, his father's words stung him like a bee under a hot afternoon sun.

"i am sorry son. I can't let you end up with her. SHe met up with not even a quarter to the basic requirement of this family "

"dad! This is unfair"

Felix exclaimed. :

"don't be stubborn young man. Can't you read the handwriting on the wall. Her family died a mysterious death. If you associate with her, people will talk and it is not good enough for our reputation. Perhaps, she is seeking for a greenal pasture through you"

chief Gavin explicated.

"she's not dad. She is the one i love . why all these embarrassment???"

Felix screamed looking frustrated Mercy felt tears burning at the edge of her eyes. Their was no way she was going to cry before them so she fought hard not to cry . She bit her bottom lip so hard to the extent that she almost injure her self.

"Felix take me out of here"

she managed to say with a voice full of tears. She was not crying but her voice was already crying. Felix broke over and over again at the sound of her voice.

"don't worry baby. We are in this together."

he held her hand and comforted her but it was not working.

"so i beseech you end up every thing you have with her this night!" the older man proclaimed.

"never! "

Felix shouted.

. He can't imagin him self breaking up with her after all she've been through. After putting her in the condition she is and having internal experience with her the previous night. He will surely die out of depression if he tries that.

"your father is right Felix. You deserve someone better not a disgusting lady like i am. You deserve some one who have something to offer you not someone like me who has nothing to offer . So take me home to avoid more embarrassment."

Mercy bawled. By now the tears she had been preventing are now flowing down her cheek. Tears ran down Felix eyes as well and his whole body scattered. He stood and led her the way out of the house. Mirabell went to her room with face burning with anger. - -: to be continued
