A letter that should be filled with horror,

A letter that should be filled with pain,

A letter that should be filled with war stories,

Stories that begets their nightmares,

It's a letter that should be filled with their fears,

But it isn't.

A letter filled with hopes,

Filled with dreams,

Filled up with aspirations,

Things to do with loved ones,

Silly things, meaningful things,

Things that should be constant, but aren't.

Simple everyday things,

That they wish they could do just once.

A letter about people,

About loved ones,

About family, important persons,

Things to do with them,

Things that ordinarily are done everyday.

Places to go with them,

Places that are passed by without a second glance.

Conversations to have with them,

Conversations that normally are pleasantries.

Are all about hope,

Hope for things that are taken slightly,

Hope for celebrations that occur once a year,

To be an everyday event.

It's all about hope,

Hope to see, to touch, to feel,

The love they've been denied.

Promises to come back,

Promises to be cautious, to be safe,

A soldier's letter

A letter filled with apologies,

Because the promise was not kept,

Filled with regret,

Because a soldier's letter leaves only heartache.
