Beautiful Mask - Episode 18

Caroline:

After thanking the doctor for her time, i walk nimbly out of her

office. Simon hasn't replied my text yet and i am so nervous. The

doctor's office is at the far end of the down floor after the private

rooms and i cant help but marvel at the difference between these rooms

and the general rooms which are not as beautiful and huge even if they

contain more than one patients at a time. I am almost out of the

private room area when something catches my eyes. A name. It says

Beatrice Williams on one of the doors. Could it be the Beatrice i

know?. What would she be doing in an hospital? I make up my mind that

it cant possibly be her and i start to walk away when the door opens.

"don't come back here until you find my phone!" i hear a female voice

yell from inside. Its Beatrice's voice. The nurse leaves the door

slightly open and i peek in to see if i am hallucinating. My eyes meet

Beatrice's as i stare at her in shock. She is sitting on the bed and

she is wearing a hospital gown. Her face is bruised and there is a

huge bandage around her head.

"Caroline?" she asks looking stun. I enter the room fully and before i

know it, Beatrice is rushing at me

. I prepare myself for her attack

but i am shocked beyond words when she engulf me in a hug instead. I

hear her sniff and that's when i realise that she is crying. This is

so weird. She is supposed to hate me.

"Am so sorry Caroline. For everything" she mumble into my neck and i

shrug out of her embrace.

"I don't understand. You are supposed to hate me remember?. Or did

whatever happened to you transform your black heart?" i cant help but

be bitchy. She deserves it.

"Nothing happened to me. I am fine"

"then what's up with all these bruises and the bandage. Did i walk in

on an hospital scene?" i ask. Beatrice shake her head then walk to the

door and lock it.

"why did you lock the door?. What is going on here?" i ask.

"there is something you must know. I know you probably think Simon

likes me but its not true."

"What are you talking about?"

"i had to blackmail him to marry me"

"what?!. Blackmail him with what? Are you pregnant?"i ask stun. Is this a trick?

"no. Kelvin has a video proving he killed someone. The guy that tried

to rape you and we used it against him. I told him that if he doesn't

marry me, i would send him to prison and implicate you too. He agreed

to marry me to protect you"

"wait. Kelvin?"

"yes kelvin. He's the devil himself. He planned everything all in a

bid to collect simon's company"

"you are spurting nonsense. Are you sure your head injury didn't

affect your brain. Because the Simon i know is nothing short of a

knight in shunning armour. All he has ever done for me is helped me

whenever i needed him"

"i don't have a head injury Caroline. Listen to me! These bruises are

just fake. Its my way of stalling kelvin's plan while i think of a way

to stop him" she says and my mouth falls open in shock. Is she crazy or

is this my own crazy dream?.

"So if what you are saying about kelvin is true why haven't you

reported him to the police instead of lying here pretending to be

sick?" I ask

"i don't have any evidence against him and if i report him, he would

just hand the video of Simon to the police thereby implicating you

too. I don't want that to happen"

"wow. Because you love me right?"ni ask, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"yes i do." she nods solemnly. This confirms it. She has lost it.

"i don't believe any of the nonsense you are spurting. You are

obviously losing your mind" i reply calmly and turn to leave.

"you are just like our mother." she says and i turn.

"what?"

"she had your eyes. Brown and animated. I should have noticed this but

i was blinded by jealousy" she continues. I walk closer to her.

"what are you talking about?"

"i thought you were dead benedicta. Am sorry, i didn't look for

you" she starts crying but my mind gets stuck on that name. Benedicta.

I have heard that name before and recently too but where?.

"don't you remember the costume party where we wore the same mask and

gown? cant you see the similarities? Am your twin!" She sob out and use

her palm to cover half of her face. What?! No. She is just a lying

bitch. A really crazy one at that.

"i don't know what you hope to accomplish by lying against kelvin but

you cant fool me." i say and stomp out.

"benedicta! You have to avoid kelvin please" she screams after me but i

don't stop. Thankfully she doesn't follow me out. I am shaking so bad.

I cant believe i let her get to me. This isn't the movies where such

bizarre things happen. What really happened at the costume party? I

still cant remember anything from the moment i entered the rest room.

My memory of that day is foggy. I walk out of the hospital and notice

that its already dark outside. I check my phone to see the time and

notice one new message. From Simon. I click on it.

Simon- okay. Lets meet. By the otokutu bridge. In twenty minutes. Don't b late.

I wonder why he wants to meet there.

. I was expecting to meet him in a

restaurant or something. I shrug my uneasiness off and board a taxi to

take me there. Its quiet and i am a bit scared when i the taxi drop me

off and zoom off. So i text Simon.

Caroline- where are you?

Simon-looked behind you.

I turn and see simon's car coming with immense speed.

Caroline- you need to slow down.

Simon-i am sorry Caroline but you cant live. You are the only witness

that saw me beat the life out of khalifa. I don't want any loose end.

Caroline- but you said you love me.

Simon- well i lied.

The car doesn't seem to slow down and i panic. I want to get off the

road but i rooted to the spot and the car get closer by the seconds.

What good will running be when i cant outrun a car? I close my eyes

and wait for the impact. Suddenly, i feel strong arms around my

waist. My eyes fly open and i see as simon's car almost knock me off

the road  before i am pulled out of the road. I hit the ground hard

with my stomach and watch as simon's car zoom off. I turn to look at

my saviour and i see kelvin.
