Lydia's heart - Episode 29

Lydia came out from the kitchen carrying the celebration cake and sets it on the table; she saw her daughter and her look alike at the far end struggling with the decorations.

She sighed, she couldn’t believe her daughter invited only her friend to the party; she has envisioned how the party was going to turn out with many teenagers enjoying themselves but here the daughter has crashed the dream.

She sighed again reluctantly, finished what she was doing and joined her friends in the kitchen,

“your mom is not happy with you” Lydia(x) says handing over the ribbon

Lydia(n) collected the ribbon and fixed it, climbed down from the ladder and faced her friend “why will you think she is not happy with me”

“I just saw her now leaving for the kitchen; she doesn’t look all happy”

Lydia(n) laughed and dismissed her “how is it then my fault, maybe her friends said something to upset her”

Lydia(x) dragged Lydia(n) back as she wanted to leave “no mother would be happy that the party she so much prepared for turned out to be attended by one person”

Lydia(n) rolled her eyes “it’s not only one person, her friends came too”

Lydia(x) gave her a stare and she flinched

“enough with the stare already; you know my mom; she always wants things so big”

Lydia(x)’s eyes fell and she sat on the old arms chair nearest to her “at least you have a mom”

Lydia(n) realizing where the conversation is leading to, dropped the scissors she was holding and hugged her “and you have a Dad too”

Lydia(x) brightened “of course I do; although not my biological Dad but I so much love him as he loves me”

***** “Surprise, I am here” Stanley shouts bursting through the front door, his gangs filling behind him

“Hope am not too late” he asks non-chalantly and brought out an expensive wine he came with
The two girls stared at him, Lydia(n) bent and whispered “He is acting weird, thought you said you never invited him”

“Yes, I couldn’t remember giving him the invitation; he pissed me off and I left”
She smiled and whispered again “but its good thing he is here; this party is gonna rock”

“yeah right” Lydia(n) replied with sarcasm rolling her eyes

“why the whispering, or are you guys not happy to see me” he paused “and who among you is celebrating the birthday”

Lydia(x) quickly pointed at Lydia(n)

“then happy birthday to you” Stanley says and hands over the wine “that is very expensive so appreciate it” he says proudly

He flagged his gangs and they sat down setting out the numerous drinks they came with,

“He is too arrogant for my liking” Lydia(x) says in-between clenched teeth

“me too” Lydia(n)supported

Lydia(x) happy that the party is not going to be a bore pushed Lydia(n) towards her room “okay, it’s time for you to go get ready; party have started”

Lydia(n) indolently responded to the push “I pray I never hate this day”

“you will definitely love it”

Cindy peeped through the kitchen window and saw the group of boys that entered; she squirmed happily and dragged Lydia to the window “I told you, your daughter is always full of surprises”

“is that her boyfriend” Nelly asks referring to the handsome guy that seems to be the ring leader

“boyfriend; she is too young for that” Lydia chirps in immediately and directs her gaze back to the window

“with all that assets, I know guys will be swimming around her and boom she will get married” Ritsy adds tickling Lydia

Lydia laughed but refuses to think of the day her daughter will get married and leave her “let’s go and change as the party has started” she snaps and left

“seems someone is angry but remember Kammy is coming” Cindy teases and they all laughed

Lydia ignored them cus truly they are saying the truth; she has so been thinking on how to react or dress when he comes and that has made her so nervous

“whatever” she replied and increased the music volume

The girls followed her to dress up too

***** “that’s my baby girl; you look so sweet” Lydia(x) squirmed happily at the dolled up look of her friend

“thank you so much” Lydia(n) replied happily

“you don’t look bad yourself” she compliments

“really; Daddy bought it for me” Lydia(x) says happily and whirls around

“rocking the party mood activated” they shouted in unison and made to open the door when a sharp rap on the door swung it open startling them

Cindy burst in “what have you been doing; come cut your cake”

“on our way” they chorused and followed her

As they climb down the stairs, Lydia(n) was surprised at the crowd that showed up, everybody was dancing happily to the music that blasts out from the speaker

“come on girl ease up, its your party; be happy that people showed up” Lydia(x) says as exhilaration filled her and she starts dancing to the music

“who invited them” Lydia(n) asks

“we will know later, right now you have to cut your cake” Nelly replied and pushed her up to the stage

As she mounted up the stage, everybody shouted happily welcoming her and she cuts the cake; her eyes flashed to her mom getting mushy with a guy at the corner. She smiled and climbed down; her mom is happy; she has to be happy too.

Stanley swirled her round immediately and they started dancing, “he is not a bad dancer either” Lydia(n) said in consolation and allowed herself to be swirled in rhyme with the rhythm of the music.

“I invited them all, hope you don’t mind” Stanley asks but shushed her before she can reply “do that after the party, right now lets dance”

Kammy checked his watch again, the party will soon end and he has not fulfilled his main purpose of gracing the party

. He swirled Lydia closer to him and whispered slowly to her ears “you have not introduced me to your daughter”

Lydia thrilled that he has finally come to terms of her having a daughter whispered back “you really want to meet her”

“why not; I would love to see the daughter of a beautiful woman like you” he replied and pecked her

Lydia happily made a sign to her friend sitting together that things are good and they nod happily. She dragged Kammy towards Lydia(n) and tapped her which made her to stop dancing with Stanley. Stanley bowed charmingly and turned towards the expectant Lydia(x) and they started dancing

“Kammy meet my daughter Lydia(n)” she said introducing them “and Lydia(n) meet my friend Kammy”

“wow, she bears same name with you”

“yea, my mom named her after me”

Kammy stretched his hand to Lydia(n) and Lydia(n) gingerly took his hand, “you look beautiful” he compliments

Lydia(n) smiled blushing “thank you Sir; its nice meeting you”

“you are welcome but ofcourse your mom is prettier”

They laughed heartily

“do you mind me dancing with her” Kammy asks Lydia

“No, not at all; you enjoy yourself” the happy Lydia answers “I will be back” she adds and left

Kammy took Lydia(n)’s hand and they start dancing to the soft music. Her heart gladdened that she is dancing with her soon to be Dad

When the soft music ended, Kammy brought out a gold watch and offered it to her “this is my little present to you”

Lydia(n) collected it immediately and put it on “I love it, infact I will never remove it” she said happily and hugged him

“as you should be” he muttered under his breath and returned the hug

“Am I missing something” Lydia ask getting nearer

Lydia(n) stretched her hand and showed her mom the shiny watch “my first present for the day”

Lydia took her hand and admired it “wow, it looks so beautiful; thank you Kammy”

Kammy nodded and checked his watch again “I will be leaving now, I have an emergency”

“so soon”

“yea”

“can’t you stay till the end” Lydia pleads

He pecked her “I wish I could; come escort me outside”

Lydia(n) waved at him still admiring the watch while Lydia escorts him outside

*** Alone inside the car, Kammy placed a call to his good friend Chris

“yes, it’s done; we can easily track her” Chris voice came through the phone

“she was so excited when I gave her the watch; poor her, she won’t know what hit her” Kammy say with a grin on his face, sticking a cigarette

“but you haven’t told me exactly why you want to track her” disturbed Chris asks

“well, you can’t relate well with me just cus you feel guilty of separating her with the sister; although I found someone who resembles her there, it will be nice if she is the other girl and it will be pretty easy to finish them off” he paused and puffed out smoke “then I will have my best friend and baby all to myself” Kammy raps up with a wicked smile at the corner of his lips

Chris kept quiet, infact speechless cus he doesn’t know how he got himself in the mess

Kammy took his silence as consent

“don’t worry man, I will ease you of the guilt” he disconnects the call and starts his engine, with one last look at the building he grinned

“nobody stands in his way not even his dead wife”
