Single and 30 - Episode 4
Remember Chika Do yin's friend
Chika's POV
"Father, I'm pleading with you. Let me marry him".
Chief Ezechukwu was not convinced. "You my daughter is catholic as I am. And no real catholic will marry a Protestant".
My father was trained by Reverends, but it doesn't still explain this.
I shake my head. "Daddy, this is the modern world. Times have changed. Catholics marry non- Catholics now. I mean, we are all Christians. One in Christ's fold".
"That's the rubbish these liberals have been feeding you, abi?"
I bite my lips. Would he even listen to me?
"Father, I love Samuel. I don't care if he's Protestant or not".
My father shakes his head. Must be where I got that habit from. He looks at me with anger. If looks could kill.....
"No daughter of mine!" He shouts. "I repeat. No daughter of mine will marry an undisciplined Pentecostal bull dog".
"Father...." I protest but he interrupts me.
"I would rather you end up in the convent than in that man's house". He storms out in anger.
I fell on a cushion frustrated. Am I going to din this battle?

. No way. That can't be the smell of burning soup were Jeremy thoughts as he runs into the kitchen. He sees Doyin coughing.
"Leave here!" He shouts grabbing a fire extinguisher. In few minutes the fire went down. He puts off the gas to we Doyin still in the kitchen.
"Madam_ Don't you value your life".
"I do, but not at the expense of another". She said before coughs and looking at the sorry state of her kitchen. He opens the window, then drags her to the sitting room.
They sit down. Doyin bends her head ashamed.
She clears her throat. "Hmmn.... I'm sorry".
"No need for sorries. You have to be careful in the kitchen. Besides, what were you doing? I thought you would be in the kitchen stirring the soup while I get the delivery. How did that happen?"
She motions with her hand. "I was........" Her voice trailed off.
"You were?" He inquired.
"Ah! No excuses. I would be more careful next time. I can't believe you have not given up on me already".
"Give up, never!" He said and started laughing.
"What is it? Or are you laughing at me?" She asked.
"No, not really. I was just wondering that, 'who burns soup?"
"Me apparently".
Doyin's pov
The 5th thing you don't know about me.
I fantasize a lot.
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I stir the palm oil soup. The first I would make with little supervision from Jeremy. He ha gone to get something from the delivery guy.
I'm really proud of myself, after various failed attempts. Kudos to my teacher. Mmn......
Read " A Bride For The Dumji Prince " by the same author ( Queen )
. The soup is good. Wonder where he learnt this from. I bet Italians can't man this.
Then I start fantasizing what it will be like if I have someone like Jeremy with me everyday.
"What are you doing?" Mr. Unreal asks me.
"Supervising", I tell him.
"Get off the counter and help me with the onions", he orders.
"Dicing onion. You are punishing the birthday girl".
xxxxxxx... I reduce the gas cooker or so I thought.
I continue imagining things.
"Birthday girls don't get to be supervisors".
"They do", I argued.
"They don't".
I pout
"You look so cute when you do that".
I stick out my tongue childishly.
He tickles me.
Then reality kicks in. What's that smell? Fire. Water. My eyes become teary as I searched for water. I just found a bowl for water, when I heard "leave here!"
More to come...
What do you think of Chika POV? I'm not against Catholics or Protestants. I just don't get why they can intermarry .
