Single and 30 - Episode 5
JEREMY’S POV
“Daddy, do you remember the girl you helped her foster father to court?” I ask my father on the morning I visited my parents’ residence.
He flicks his newspaper to yet another page, adjusting his glasses. I was about to repeat the question when he replied. “Your crush?”
“Dad!”
“What? You wanted to forgo your studies in Italy because of her”.
I scratched my head. They would never let me hear the end of it. “Well…. I met her again”.
“Really? She must be married with two to three kids now”.
“Actually, she’s still single”.
“Single? She should be thirty or so now. What can I say? Lucky you”, my father says flicking to yet another page of the newspaper. He looks up. “I have forgotten her name”.
“Doyin Inioluwa”, I chirp in.
“No way!” He says surprised. “The same Doyin. Stella’s best friend”.
I nod my head vertically.
“No wonder she seemed familiar when I met her three years ago. I must say she has changed a lot. She’s come a long way, from an uncared for foster child to the CEO of Innate advertising agency”.
I am proud of her, I acknowledged mentally

. His next question surprised the hell out of me.
“When are you both going to get married?”
“Father, we just met. No one’s talking about marriage”. At least not yet, I added in my head.
He frowns. “If not marriage then what? You are getting old as I am”. He ruffled his white beard.
“Honey”, he calls his wife with a softer voice.
“Yes”, a femine voice answered. The beautiful fair Mrs. Durosinmi walks in.
“Talk to your son. Doyin is not a girl he can toy with. She’s like a daughter to me”.
I stare at my mother. I have got to say I am the masculine version of her.
“What do I hear, Jeremiah Durosinmi? Are you playing around with that nice girl?”
AUTHOR’S POV
The four ladies. You know who? Are shopping.
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
“Doyin this dress is totally for you”, Amani said admiring a pink dress she picked out.
“What colour is it?” Doyin asked.
“Pink!” Amani blurted out. “Are those lens fake?”
“No, but you know I don’t recognize colours. I know black, I know white, I know grey but pink I know not”, Doyin replied.
Chika shakes her head. “Well! We have to teach you”. She picks a dress. “This is blue”. She picks another. “This is red”.
Doyin nods assimilating it all.
“You know what, D?” Stella asked. She did not wait for an answer. “We will get you a labeled colour book and tell you the colours that match”.
“That’s a good idea”, Amani puts in.
“What goes with pink?” Doyin asked curious.
“Black, blue just dark colours. Black goes with anything”, Chika explained.
“I see…..” Doyin said.
Stella picks baby clothes.
“What do you want to use that for?” Amani asked.
“Well! I am expecting a baby”, Stella said.
“Really!” Doyin shouts. She hugs her.
The other ladies turned it into a group hug before releasing her.
“I’m so happy for you”, Chika said grinning from ear to ear.
Doyin’s POV
As much as I am tempted to talk about the sixth thing you don’t know about me, I would not tell you yet. I’ve got a blind date to meet up with.
Stella helps me with my make- up grudgingly. What’s up with her?
“Stella, what is wrong?” I ask her.
“Nothing”, she replies putting a final touch to the make up. I love it, very simple and nice touch.
“Get up!” She orders me. Something is definitely wrong with her.
I stand up. She zipped up my blue dress. She smiles a bit.
“Thank you”, I tell her. “I love everything from my hair down to my heels”. The hair, my natural was made into a bun with silver clips attached to it. The stiletto heels are killing me, but it’s just a little sacrifice.
I looked at her moody expression. “Tell me already. What is wrong?”
She looks at my eyes. “You look beautiful”, she tells me.
“And?” I inquire.
She sighs and says, “I just wish all these is not for a blind date. You are going all the way to impress a guy you have never met”.
I roll my eyes. “You met your husband on a blind date”.
“It’s different”, she protests.
“How so?” I ask her. I don’t understand this friend of mine sometimes, despite living with for four years.
“It was love at first sight for me”, she defends.
I smile. Now, I understand. She’s concerned. “It might be for me too”, I assure her.
“I just wish……….” She starts and trails off.
I raised an eyebrow expectantly. “Stella, finish the sentenve”.
She looks at her wristwatch. “You are almost late. Come on, move”.
This girl and her unfinished sentences.
Author’s POV
Doyin’s date is totally nothing to write home about. He checks her out as she gets back from the rest room.
He smiles with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
She stares at him suspiciously. His smile is making her uncomfortable. She shifts on the love seats and grabs her glass of wine and drank it all in few gulps.
Funny.

. The wine has a funny taste, she thoughts.
“So what do you do for a living?” He asked her.
“I advertise goods and things like that”, she answered forcing her eye lids to stay open. Feeling a little tipsy she asked him, “and you?”
He smile again. “I buy advertised goods and things like that”.
“I feel dizzy”, she says out loud and rests her back on the love seat. In seconds, she starts snoring softly.
“Finally!” her bearded date said and helps her up. She murmurs something in her sleep.
Her opens a bit. “Where are you taking me?” She whispers, her voice loud enough for him to hear.
“Where you belong?” He replied walking slowly with her head on his shoulder.
He hisses. “She weighs a lot”, he grumbled. “A lot of weights for a tiny tall thing like you”.
He passed through the doors. It’s as if no one notices the kidnapping.
