Synder-Ella - Episode 8

“Do not forget everything that you have been taught and make sure you make me proud darling.” Pauline said to her daughter before hugging and kissing her on the forehead.

Synder sighed where she stood in front of the car as mother and daughter said goodbyes.

She had never seen Pauline this emotional except on the day they had heard that her husband was missing in war and even  the emotional state had vanished almost immediately.

Synder’s phone chimed and she brought out her phone from the pocket.

“What is happening?” It was Zichat.

Quickly, she texted back,”oh nothing really, just Pauline saying goodbye.”

The emoticon Zichat sent back made her laugh.

Seconds later, for some reason, Synder decided to look up, the curtain on the window of Fiona’s room was gently pulled up and Fiona’ face to reveal her face as she watched the whole show between her mother and her sister, for a while Synder had thought she would join in but she didn’t. Her expression was unreadable.

There had always been an issue with Fiona and Katrina, while the former was like the black sheep of the family, Katrina was her mother’s most treasure jewel, gently and beautiful, she was just the perfect candidate and her mother made sure she had the perfect upbringing.

Sometimes, Synder felt this kind of behavior of Katrina being their mother’s favorite made Fiona mean to her but she was relieved, at least, she would be gone for a while, out of Fiona’s reach. The only thing that would bring Fiona and her mother together was the hatred they both shared for Synder.

Finally, Katrina pulled away and headed for the car

Synder listened on and on for as Katrina read from her head...They have been traveling for more than two hours already and she hadn’t stopped talking.

. Synder was tired, she hadn’t gotten enough sleep since last night just because of the preparation and now, she wasn’t getting any sleep either.

 “Synder, sincerely, I am so nervous.”

“You don’t have to be, you have all the requirements and you have been practicing for days.” Synder replied, she was accompanying her as her mother had ordered.

Katrina sighed again.”I heard that 30 ladies will be in attendant and all are from good and wealthy families. What if I lose the competition? Mother would be so angry with me and Fiona can finally gloat.”

“Well, I believe that you will do such fine and....”

“Stop saying that, it’s pissing me off.” Katrina cried and Synder kept quiet. “I can’t afford to lose this one chance of getting married to a prince. I would just die of shame if I am not picked. All the money mother has spent would be a total waste.”

Synder said nothing, she had no idea of how else to make her relax.

“One thing I know is that, the glass shoes will make me stand out, not all the princesses will have one and ...
Synder almost laughed out, how could a shoe make her stand out? The criteria wasn’t based on the type of shoe and even if...anyway, hold on. Is the shoe even her size yet?

“Oh my God!” Katrina exclaimed. “Stop the car right now!”

The driver frowned and checked the rear mirror and realized she wasn’t joking.

“I said stop the car!” Kat shouted again, breathing heavily.

“What is it Kat?” Synder asked.

“My cloth, the one you got measured for, we didn’t collect it.”

Synder gasped, it was the only one remaining with the tailor and they were supposed to get it before embarking on their journey.

“Should we turn back?” The driver asked.

“No! No! I can’t afford to be late on the first day. it is important for me to get there on time, what kind of a queen will it make me when I show up later than others....”

“But you are not a queen yet and...”

“Stop talking Synder and get out! This is all your fault!”

Synder frowned, “this is my fault?”

“Yes and don’t dare talk back to me. A queen must speak with authority and...”

Synder scoffed and pulled the door opened, any more talk of what a queen must do and she might just faint.

“I don’t care how you are going to do it, but you must go back to the tailor and get me my gown and meet us at the palace. Let’s go!” Katrina ordered.

Synder gasped, “you can’t be serious, I can’t trek all the way down, I don’t have money on me...” The door slammed shut and the driver zoomed off.

Synder thought this was a joke and she began to run after the car....”Wait, Katrina, please, I am in the middle of a nowhere....” But the car didn’t stop until she stopped running as she was out of breath.

She looked behind her, there were just bushes and nothing else....not even a single car drove by. She looked at the front again and watched as the car got smaller and smaller until it was out of sight.
