An Arranged Marriage - Episode 26

I watch as the rain gently hits the ground, it's 5 in the morning and I'm standing by this window wondering if I can float away like the rain outside. 

I take a seat on the window seat, looking out at the dark sky, my hand around my knees and my head atop my knees. 

My mind goes back to the big question of yesterday and I wonder how my sisters will take it when I tell them Kane asked me to marry him.. 

They might probably think I'm mad for considering it, we've barely known each other. 

We've barely spoken, except that night when we talked about trivia things. 

And then there's the other case of him being a billionaire. No matter how I look at it, I know there are people out there who will most definitely think I'm going to marry him for his money. 

Their opinions do not matter to me but my heart will never accept it. 

I'm not going to do it for the money but a marriage should happen between two equals, it's a given, I have nothing to offer, I'm aware of where I stand, he might think he likes me now, I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that he loves me, so he might think he likes me but what will happen when he finally gets his company and we find out we aren't actually compatible, I don't want to be a divorcee at 30.

But I really really want this, I want to explore the dark tension between us, that flash of pain always in his eyes, the way he tilts his head, I want to know where he picked that, I want to know all the secrets in his mind, the ones that his lip twitch, I want to know everything. 

"You look awfully severe for a Sunday morning" Anaya says from behind me and without my invitation she seats herself on the on the chair by the window, wrapping the afghan around herself. 

"It's so cold this morning" She comments and I nod. 

"Do you think the rain is going let up?" I ask, my eyes still on the rain outside. 

"I don't want it to, I love the vibe it's bringing with it" She says and we settle into a comfortable silence. 

"So.." She starts. 

I'm wondering why she's being nice to me this morning, but I need advice so I open my mouth. 

"Will you find it weird if I suddenly get married to Kane King?" I don't look at her but I know she freezes in surprise. 

"Why? Did he ask you to marry him?" 

"Just answer me will you?" I say. 

"Stranger things have happened" She says, repeating Kane's words from yesterday. 

"So it won't be Wierd?" 

"It will, definitely, it will take a lot of adjusting on our part, I mean we will have to live without you and we all know that you are the only one holding this family together" She says and my heart warms at the offhand compliment.

But it occurs to me that in all my brooding, not once did I think of the fate of my sisters. 

"I see what you are doing" Anaya says..

"What?"

"You are making another life decision considering us again" She says. 

"You and the girls are my priority, no one comes before" I say. 

"Yes, well, we are grateful, but what will happen to you when we eventually get married and are gone from your life?" 

"What?" I whisper. 

"Oh? You never thought about that did you? We aren't kids, I'm 23, the twins are 20,are you getting the gist?" 

"But.." 

"I'm not saying you should rush into a marriage with Kane, Lord knows I don't even know why he's asking you to marry him but why don't you see where this will lead?" 

"He's saying he need to secure his company while at the same time explore where things will go with us, he's offering to send the girls to school and give back our land" I say, laying it all out.. 

"Wow, the guy must really want you in his bed to offer all those things" She says, with a smile. 

"Shut up" 

"So, what's the problem" 

"What wil I offer in a marriage with Kane King" I ask and she shakes her head, adjusting in the chair. 

"Let me not school you about self worth because I know and I swear to God that's not what you are feeling, Anadia, you are beyond fine, a man will kill to have you, that aside, you are marrying him so he can get a firm grip on his company, isn't that sacrifice enough, his company hangs on a balance, but if you really want to feel secure in your relationship with him you can think of something else. "

" Like what? "I ask. 

" How will I know? "Well, then, seems her bout of civility has drained, we are back to being catty. 

" Thank you Anaya "I say softly, although her advice didn't answer all my questions, it did help a little.. 

" Just, do this thing for you, think about your happiness first "She says before closing her eyes. 

I do so too, listening to the rain hitting the ground.
