Dance With Me - Episode 3

Adams watched the dance floor from the stair case. Everywhere was filled to the brim.

Omega and Marcy were both at the bar, serving numerous people at the bar. Candy and Betty were walking around, serving people with drinks and taking orders. In another section was Collins, the DJ, spinning, doing what he could do best while taking occasional look at Marcy who was only focused on what she was doing.

Adams chuckled.

House 24 was a totally different place in the night. It was a haven for people that wanted to have a good time.  Some were dancing to the music while others were just, smoking, chatting, drinking and having a good time. 

The floor was all filled, there was no room for anyone anymore but even in this situation, Adams couldn’t help but take note of a lady in a pink short gown which clung delightfully to her lips.

For a while Adams had no idea why he kept watching her as she strolled to the dance floor in another man’s hands. Despite that there was no space for any other person on the dance floor, somehow when she approached, the space just magically appeared.

She dominated the dance floor in seconds and she was turning, whining and rocking to the beat.  She danced like she owned the floor, as if no one was watching but they all were and even those that were dancing all stopped to look at her...she was too good. Even her partner couldn’t dance with her, she seemed to be a lady who didn’t need a partner, and she was everything in one.

Adams watched, fascinated and for a while, he completely forgot about his worries.

“Hello Adams?”

A voice said behind him and he turned around, his heart sank as he saw Kwame-his lawyer

“Hi Lawyer?”

“Can we go to your office?” Kwame asked

“Sure.” He replied and they both went to his office. He could hear  the people cheering the lady as he entered his office and the noise died outside as he shut the door after John had entered.

“How bad is it?” He asked as they both settled down.

“Well, just three months left to balance up man, if you don’t come up with the money by then , I’m sorry, you will lose this place.”

Adams sighed and leaned back. “No problem Kwame.”

“Are you sure Adams? I can’t push this further Adams. You have to do everything you can.”

Adams nodded and stood up, “I understand Kwame, thanks. I will see what I can do.”

Kwame nodded and stood up, they shook hands and Adams watched as he took his leave, then he took a deep breath and slumped into the chair.

Suddenly the door opened, he thought Kwame had probably forgotten something but it was Marcy, she had a look of concern on her face as she walked in.

“How much time do we have left?” She asked.

“Three.” He responded and she sighed as well.

“This is bad Adams, how are we supposed to raise such a large amount of money in three months?”

“I have no idea but whatever plan you have on your mind, you better start bringing it up.”

“Well, no more recruiting Adams, it’s best for everyone to be on their toes now, no more slacking.”

Adams agreed, “yes you are right.”

“I think you need to call a meeting Adams, everyone needs to know.”

“Yes, you are right. We will close early at dawn, so please tell everyone there will be a meeting.”

She saluted. “Yes boss.”

Adams        scoffed at her action but chose not to say anything.

. This surprised Marcy and she observed him.

“What?” He asked.

“Are you okay? Well, apart from the whole loan settlement, what else is the problem?”

Adams shrugged. Marcy would always do this, always trying to read his mind and solve his problems. “Look, stop, don’t even try with all your psychic-thingy.”

Marcy chuckled and sat on one of the chairs at the front of Adams’s desk.

“How is Rita?” She began.

“Why are you asking me about her?”

“Are things better between you two?”

“Yes.” He lied.

“Really?”

“Yea, it’s getting worse actually, it’s worse than before.” He finally admitted.

“You still think she’s cheating on you?”

Adams chuckled, and sat upright to look at her. “You are really getting good at this you know?”

“At what?”

“This whole, I-can-read-your-mind, thing.”

Marcy smiled, “well, you have been my patient for, let me think, four months, yes. I have enough time to practice and yes I’m getting better.” She said proudly.

She was right, she had been his advisor for the past four months, ever since his relationship had started hitting the rocks.

“So what about Collins?” He asked, changing the question.

“What about him?”

“I saw him looking at you occasionally....”

Marcy stood up. “Well, I already told you that he is not my type and good job on changing the topic. However that means you are still thinking that she is cheating on you and if that is the case, you know you can’t continue being miserable, soon you have to break up.” She stood up, “Happy anniversary.” She said before leaving the office.

Adams shut his eyes, his relationship had clocked nine months today and neither he nor his girlfriend had actually remembered.

He chuckled to himself and pulled out one of the drawers in his desk. There was a bottle of vodka and a cup, he brought them out, placed on the table and poured himself a drink. Then he stood up. He needed that distraction he had earlier but by the time he got to the stairs, the lady in pink was nowhere to be found.
