Happy Never After - Episode 14

"I'm so sorry, my husband had an accident some minutes ago and we are still at the hospital. What is your name please?"

When she heard this, she said nothing, she just ended the call. What was that? How did that happen? Quickly, she made the tea and headed back to their room. He was out of the shower and was getting into his robe.

"Hey, here is your tea,"

she said, passing him the cup.

"Thanks darling,"

she replied, walking to the bed. She was still pretty shaken about the news she just heard. She should have said something, she could have asked what happened and probably, she could have given the lady a name

FLASHBACK

"Is everything okay?"

She turned around sharply as she heard Daniel's voice behind her.

"Of course, why would you ask that?"

He shrugged and walked towards the window of her room to draw the curtain apart.

"You have been awfully strange ever since you went to say goodbye to Fabian."

She swallowed as he said that. He was right, ever since two days ago that she had gone to the hospital, she hasn't been the same. She couldn't deny the fact that she had been thinking about the kiss she had with Fabian, or her own guilty conscience or the fact that she might be in love with him more than she thought.

Each moment she spent with Daniel made her yearn for more time with Fabian

. She was confused. She knew that if she didn�t see her that day, she might end of losing her mind.

"I've just been really busy with work,"

she lied.

"There is nothing to worry about."

He nodded with a smile.

"Good. Can we hang out this evening?"

"Oh, no. Sorry, I need to go for my monthly medical check-up."

"At Fabian's hospital?"

he asked, staring at the frames that were hanging on the wall.

"Yes,"

she replied, trying not to make things awkward.

"Do you think that this is wise? Knowing you just broke up with him?"

"It wouldn't affect anything. Ever since the accident I had, he has been my doctor. That things don't work out between us shouldn't be a problem."

"I don't have a problem with you, babe,"

he said, walking towards her. 

"I just don't trust him."

She wanted to say something but he continued. 

"I know you kissed him on that da"

She inhaled as she heard this. He knew.

"Daniel,"

she started.

"It was nothing, it was"

"I believe you," he said, much to her surprise. He drew her closer and kissed her.

"You must have gotten emotional and you couldn't stop yourself. I trust such would not happen again."

She frowned, not believing that he would just treat the whole thing as if it was nothing.

"Yes, yes. It will never happen again."

"Good. So, I am going to believe that. You should go for your appointment. I love you. Will call you in the night."

She watched as he walked out of the room. That was really easy and very strange. Hours later, she was at the hospital, talking to the receptionist. Lydia had been transferred to another section so they couldn't see. More so, the hospital had a place for all their interns within the premises where she was staying temporarily.

"Doctor Fabian will not be able to attend to you,"

said the receptionist.

"Instead, Doctor Megan will be the one to attend to you. Her office is just.."

"Wait, wait. I don't understand. Why can't Fabian attend to me?"

she asked.

"I'm sorry I can't answer that. What I see here is that your appointment has been transferred to another doctor."

Alicia said nothing but instead walked towards Fabian's office, she stopped as she saw him opening the door of his office, a pretty young lady came out. They looked really cozy together. They stopped in front of his office, embraced before the lady pulled away and went on her way. He was about to go back to his office when he spotted her. Alicia walked closer.

"I believe I have an appointment with you."

She had no idea why she felt uneasy and worse, jealous. Why would she be jealous? She had no business to be jealous. He cleared his throat.

"Doctor Megan is in her office, she will attend to you."

"No,"

she said sternly.

"You didn't ask for my permission before you gave me to another doctor, that was just wrong."

He inhaled and watched as she walked into his office. Some minutes later, he was checking for her B.P and doing all the necessary things.

They were not talking. He kept on writing things down while averting her gaze. The more his hands brushed her skin, the more it caused some chemical reaction within her. Finally, when he finished, she left the bed and walked to her seat.

"I shall email the result to you, you do not need to come back here for it,"

he said, without looking at her.

"Is the lady your patient or your new girlfriend?"

she asked all of a sudden without thinking.

"Why are you asking?"

he demanded, now looking at her.

"I just want to know,"

she replied, unable to stop the jealousy she was feeling.

"That is none of your business. You do not get to know anything about me anymore,"

he replied, attending to other things on the table. Her heart was beating fast and she was confused. Quickly, she stood up and held his arm.

. Still, he didn't look at her.

"Fabian, please look at me"

"I  don't have to. You should leave,"

he said, pulling down her arms gently but she clung on to him.

"I am confused because, I have feelings for you. I don't know what to do. Each time I spend with Daniel makes me yearn for you. I miss you so much what do I do?"

"You need to make up your mind, but you cannot fool me anymore,"

he said, yanking her arms away from his body and walking out of his office. PRESENT

"Are you okay,"

he asked, coming closer to her.

"Sure, I am,"

she replied, faking a smile.

"Good. You looked really lost in thought, are you okay?"

"Oh, yes, I am,"

she replied, looking as normal as she could.

"Alright,"

he said, straightening up. 

"I got to go to the basement. I need to lock it, I forgot to do that."

She nodded.

"Alright, don't take so long."

He smiled, picked up his cup of tea and left. Alicia stood up from the bed, and bent to check for the magazine. She needed it again, if not for anything, at least to find answers to the questions plaguing her mind. She flashed the torch of her phone under the bed, on the floor where she had pushed it to but it was gone
