The Emerald Chase - Episode 31

"Oh there you are son... Where have you been? Your dad was just about to make an announcement"

Catherine walks up to them as soon as they walk farther into the garden.

"Your mom is very pretty"

Emerald says into his ears.

"Step mom.. She's my step mother.

My real mother died when I was four"

He replies

"Who's this pretty girl Darren? My daughter in law?"

"Err well she's...."

He begins when he hears his father's voice through the microphone...

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen.. I want to thank you all for honoring my invite on such a short notice.."

Chief Benson stops, looks around and then continues

"I actually want to make a little announcement regarding one of my companys. The Kathy's shipping company.."

He pauses.. Catherine smiles and takes Darren's hand in hers then whispers

"Your father has a surprise for you.. Are you ready?"

Darren's brows furrows in confusion..

"My father? Has a surprise? For me? You've got to be kidding me"

"I know right.. Just keep listening" she winks.

. He sighs and turns his attention back to the mounted stage. "

So as I was saying I'm growing old and I need some free time for myself too and that's why I decided to handover the company to my son..."

"Chief Benson is your father? You never told me. Besides why don't you use his last name?"

Emerald inquires. "It's a long story.. Let's listen to what he has to say"

"I'm doing this so that incase any of you come for business purposes at the company, you wouldn't be surprised to see my son there instead.."

"Sir, who's going to be the CEO then since we all know you have two sons" Someone from the crowd asks

"His eldest son of course who else? That's the norm"

Another replies Chief Benson smiles and continues

"Well not in this case. Sometimes age doesn't matter. It's the smartness and intelligence that I need to run my company"

"What do you mean to say Chief?"

A male voice asks and Darren stood still.. He could feel the tension building up... He knew what his father was going to say..

"What I mean to say is that I need a smart, intelligent and farsighted person to run my company.. And that would be none other my other son, Frederick!!"

He could here gasps and murmurs from the crowd but he didn't care.. There was no way he would let stupid Darren be the CEO...

Catherine gasps in shock and let's go off Darren's hand.... Why did he name Frederick.. Yes Frederick was her son and Darren was not but still, it didn't mean she would overlook it when something was going wrong.. Earlier he had assured her he would make Darren the CEO so why was he lying now? Or he lied to her instead....

Tonia and Steven stare at each other and then back to Darren who's face was void of emotions.

"Frederick... Fre..Frederick? That means Darren is a Benson too... It.. It means Darren and Frederick are.....are.."

Emerald swallowed hard praying her conclusions were wrong... She stares at Darren and then back to Chief Benson who was welcoming someone on stage.

Her eyes bulge when she sees him stepping on stage and hugging his father...

"No this can't be... No!!"

It was him.. The rap-st!! It was him.

How could he and Darren be... Be brothers? No!!! She sucks in breath when Frederick's eyes fall on her and their eyes meet... She could swear she saw him smile...

"Thank you all. Especially my father who saw me befitting for this position... I promise not to disappoint anyone especially my parents... I..."

Frederick began his speech... For the rest of the few minutes that he gave his speech, his eyes were on her and he could feel the fear in her eyes as she stared at him.... Damn!! She looked beautiful.. He pictured himself taking off her clothes and taking her to his bed, making love to her till he could no more..... After his speech, he stepped down the stage and walked towards her,his eyes not leaving her..

Emerald staggered back and hit Tonia..... He was coming towards her... She had planned to take revenge on him for taking away her innocence but not like this... She hadn't planned it this way.. She never thought she would see him here, now!!

"Hey careful!"

Tonia says but she wasn't listening...

"Emerald are you okay? Why do you look so pale?"

She could hear Tonia ask but her memory had taken her back to that day when he tore her clothes, plunged into her and hit her continuously to shut up.. Darren who had been staring at his father sighed and turned to Emerald.

Tonia was speaking to her but she looked like she was in another world..

"Emerald? Emerald!!!!hey!!!"

Darren grabs her shoulders and shakes her vigorously until she rests her eyes on him.

She whispers He nods and she yanks his hand away from her angrily....

"Don't you come near me... I don't want to see you ever again!!"

She shouts at Darren.. Her feet were crippled with fear.. She was paralyzed with shock.

She was shaking.. Frederick was Darren's brother.... She was in love with the brother of her rap-st... She gasps.. Frederick was walking towards her... Smiling wickedly. Oh no!!
