*A WEEK LATER.

Emerald sat in front of the huge mirror as Tonia fixed her hair.. She sighed.... Today, she was going to go on a family dinner, better still, a dinner party where all the elites of the society were going to be present with Darren.... Another week had gone by after their encounter at the coffee shop.. True to his words, he had taken her out countless times for lunch and dinner dates... He was a true gentleman... That, was an undisputed fact... She was in love and she knew it, she felt it... She sighs again recalling the argument she had with her brother two days back.

"WTF is wrong with you Emerald huh?!!! Do you think I came this far just to back out just because you say so?"

He had shouted

"Please brother... I don't want to go on with this revenge. I want to let go of everything and be happy. Darren told me he likes me.. And I do too... I won't hesitate to say yes when he asks me to be his girlfriend.. I won't hesitate when he asks me to leave everything for him!"

"You must be crazy!! Are you nuts??!! You're in love so the world must stop rotating? Whatever has come over you huh? Don't take a step you will regret later Emerald. I understand you are in love but at least think things through"

Elvis laughs

"And you think falling in love will grant you that? Hell no Emerald!! Until we find all the evidence and put the perpetrators behind bars, our life will continue to be in danger including our loved ones, friends, even that guy you claim to love... Until those murderers die or are arrested, our life will never be at peace.. Why can't you understand??!!"

She shakes her head and pulls off the necklace around her neck and tosses it to the floor

"To hell with this life.. To hell with this stupid necklace. To hell with all this!!"

"Emerald!!!"

Elvis growls at her, his eyes burning with anger

"How dare you throw away the last thing that was left of mom and dad's memory.. How dare you??!"

"I just don't want this anymore.. I won't go on with this revenge anymore!"

And she walked out of the door...

"Hey!!!"

Tonia snaps her fingers to bring her out of her reverie.

"Hmm?"

"Did you hear all that I just said? Where is your mind? Were you still thinking of the argument with your brother? If so then go and meet him.. It's been two days already.. Just give him a call"

"No Tonia... Not now... Let's just concentrate on getting me ready"

"Hmm. Seems like you weren't looking at your reflection. Just look"

Emerald gasps when she stares at her reflection.

She stood up and looked at her beautiful dress.

"I look.... Different"

She mutters and keeps staring at her reflection.

She cocks her head to one side and let's her mind drift away again.

"I can't Darren... I'm not a fun of parties"

She had protested 

"Please... I know I'm asking for a lot but its just for a few hours.. Trust me if I had a choice then I wouldn't step foot there but my dad wants all of us present... I just want you to be my escort... "

He pleaded cupping her face She sighed.. 

"Okay. I will come"

And now,here she was getting ready to attend the dinner party, where the high and mighty were going to be present...

"Oh my God!! It's past seven pm.. We are late!"

Tonia's screams shook her out of her daydream.. Quickly she slipped into her heels, grabbed her purse and rushed out.

Darren glanced at his wristwatch for the thousandth time and then looked at her door... He walked back into the garden where the party was being held...

"

"Sup bro!! You waiting for a woman huh?"

Frederick says behind him. He ignores him and begins to type furiously on his phone.

"Tell me who she is bro..cummon. I wanna meet my prospective sister in law"

He grins Darren shoots him a murderous look and moves closer to him...

"Whoa!! Easy bro.. I'm not gonna.... Sh-t!!"

He exclaims when a maidservants collides into him and spills the wine onto his clothes

"You fool!! Are you blind? Arrghh!! You just ruined my expensive shirt!! You good for nothing garbage!!"

He insults angrily and storms into the house to change clothes... Not long had he gone did Darren notice Tonia and Steven walking in.

He grins waiting for her but then she wasn't with them. He walks up to them in haste "Where's Emerald?"

Steven chuckles

"Easy man!! You didn't even welcome us... Well's she hiding behind me.. She's nervous as hell"

Darren cranes his neck and sees a figure.

"You don't need to be Emerald... I'm here"

He says softly and she walks up to him, fidgeting with her fingers...

"You......"

He trails off when she gets closer and he takes a good look at her...

. Christ!! She looked heavenly.. She was wearing a blue sleeveless dress that clung to her upper part.

The lower part from her knee flared down to her feet... A touch of shimmering gold accentuated her waist up to her bosom.... Darren placed his fingers beneath her chin and raised her head...

"You look breathtaking... My God!!"

He breathes unable to take his eyes off her

"Thank you"

She mutters shyly tucking a loose hair behind her ear.. She turns to Tonia frowning

"I told you not to leave this hair hanging on my cheeks"

"Let it be... You look perfect"

Darren says and releases the hair and let's it fall back on her cheeks.

He cares-es her cheeks and watches in amusement as she blushes.

Steven clears his throat

"Enough lovebirds. Let's go"

"We aren't lovebirds"

Emerald interrupts. Darren looks at her Soon we will.... Soon.
