They sat opposite each other in the coffee shop sipping their coffee in silence.... Tonia brought out her phone and sent a quick message and stared at her friend..

"So... If I understand correctly, you asked him to kiss you and now you are avoiding him like a plaque?"

Tonia asks breaking the silence.

Emerald sighs.

"Yes... Well no.... I just..... Oh I don't know why Tonia. What was I supposed to say after the kiss? I just.... I can't face him... Not now"

"Why? Because you're scared you're developing feelings for him?"

"What? No!!!!"

"Okay tell me one thing.... How do you find him.. I mean in your own perspective, how will you describe him?"

Emerald cocks her head to one side, a smile tugging along her lips

"I think he's kind, sweet... Funny... He has this long eyelashes that so I'm jealous of. His beautiful smile..... And.. Well... He's extremely cute and oh.. His hair.. They are so silky and soft and I will love to run my fingers through them"

"Hmm"

Tonia smiles broadly tapping her feet as she stared at her friend who was looking like she was daydreaming.

"And how do you feel around him.. Honestly"

"And the kiss?"

"It was... Well.... Nothing... I felt nothing.. In fact it was disgusting!!"

Tonia burst out laughing hitting her hand on the table

"My God!! See how you're blushing.You don't even know how to lie... Let's just see how disgusting it was"

"What are we doing here Steven?"

Darren asks as they step into the coffee shop.. He had forcefully dragged him there.

"Just wait"

Steven replies as they walk towards two ladies seated at the far end of the room.

"Listen I'm in no mood for all this.. I've had a really bad day and..... Miss Arthur?....."

That voice!!!!! Emerald swallows hard and turns to find Darren and Steven standing behind them....

"You?"

Tonia grins from ear to ear and gets up...

"See you soon Emerald and don't forget to tell him whatever you just told me..."

She whispers and walks over to Steven

"let's go baby... See ya!!"

And they were out the door leaving them alone, staring at each other...

"Miss Arthur"

He breathes, his eyes not leaving her for a second.

Darren sat opposite her watching her sip her coffee nervously.... He had been trying to get her to talk ever since Steven and his girlfriend had left them alone but she was doing all she could to avoid eye contact with him...... He sighs and gets up.. Maybe he should let her be....

"I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable"

He says and waits for her to reply but she keeps looking into her cup.. He sighs again and walks out.

TWENTY MINUTES LATER

Emerald walks out of the coffee shop and looks around.. Darren's car was no where in sight...

"Guess he really left"

She mutters and begins to walk away.

"It's my fault anyway.. What's wrong with you Emerald?"

She hits her forehead and continues talking to herself.

"Since when did you start feeling nervous around him? It was you who asked for the kiss and now you're avoiding him? Stupid!! My God I'm so stupid!!"

She frowns and continued muttering.... She stops suddenly when she hears silent sobs.. She turns in that direction to find a man standing under a tree, his back facing her.... She looks closely and he seemed familiar... Why did she feel as though he was..

"Darren?"

She calls out softly.. He hesitates before turning to face her.... Her heart sank when she took a good look at him.

He looked frail and tired.. Like he hadn't slept for days.... Her chest suddenly felt constricted.

She couldn't breathe... She blinks and touches his face with both hands...

"Darren? Are you okay?"

He nodded and took her hands off his face but she cups his face again.

"What's bothering you? Why do you look like this?"

"I'm fine."

"No you aren't... You look disturbed. It's evident...I don't know what you are going through but I can at least help ease your pain"

He sidesteps her and sits on the grass, burying his face in both hands... She follows suit..... He didn't want her to see him so weak and vulnerable.. Emerald sighs.

She could tell he didn't want to talk about his problems.

"You know something Darren?"

"What?"

He says almost in a whisper.

"Come with me"

She gets up dragging him with her.

"Where?"

"Just come"

He shakes his head..

"I want to be alone Miss Arthur"

"It will be just for a few minutes. Please, come with me"

She insists, stretching out her hand... Darren sighs and takes her hand in his, instantly shivering at the physical contact.

A few metres away, a lady dressed in all black stood behind one of the numerous cars parked outside, staring at Darren and Emerald.

Her eyes were dark, uninviting, emotionless.

That's who she was m.

. She always did a clean job and tonight, wasn't going to be any different.. She slowly pulled out the sniper from her waist band, cocked it and aims at Darren. Before she could shoot, a call interrupts her.. She curses and answers it.. 

"Hello baby doll..abort the mission"

The deep, husky voice came

"But boss, I was just about to kill him."

She frowns

"I know doll but i wanna have the pleasure of killing him with my own two hands.. So just come back. I'm going to finish him off myself. Don't touch him. He's mine"

"Ok boss, but you're still paying me. Ok good"

she hangs up, sighs and tucks the sniper away.. She stares at Darren who was holding hands with Emerald one more time and disappears into the night...
